Lada - Padlock/padbolt to lock the doors

Posted: Fri May 06, 2011 5:24 pm
by SP450andLE
All of the doors in my Lada can open without a key.
Driver's door - quarterlight is missing the locking bit.
Passenger's door - window slides up and down without the winder.
Boot - key doesn't lock it.

So should I use a padlock-padbolt to lock each door?

Or only the boot, and fix the two windows on the other doors?

Bearing in mind it is only a Lada

Who wants a Lada anyway :!: Oh, You do!
Is this for the farm or "The Haven"?
Cause anything not bolted down in Beach Haven WILL get nicked

Fix it.

You will run into WOF issues if you put gate bolts on it, and besides, you could prob fix it cheaper than putting locks on it.

Weld em shut and go all dukes of hazzard.

If all the doors locks are rooted why not just get a full set and another key? Pretty easy really.

Fit the padbolts on the inside of the doors so no one can try to force the padlocks :-)

You could put a kill switch in so no one can start it, not to sure about the padlock that would look too Hillbilly would be a same to put that on as the body work is quite good Iam guessing you are doing this to your Black Lada?.

How easy would it be to put in central locking, if it has the bits in the door to do it??

Just an Idea not to sure if that will work or not.

you asked for that one bro, it is a bit of a shoot me in the head thread. It is hard for us lada owners to be taken seriously without threads like this giving them fodder.

Neil at Lada UK should be able to supply the relevant items. Failing that, I've also fitted mine with deadbolts. I don't think they're still available, but they're similar to bolts used for windows, operated by a splined key. Mine were for vehicles - the bolt is very angle grinder resistant!!
There used to be a firm called Grumpy's in the UK that supplied quarter light locks for Morris 1000's. Fitted other quarterlights as well.

There's also Andy over in Oz.

Hoodoo

Yeah, the it's the Black Lada.

Central locking? No.
It's heavy enough without it, and if it did have it, it's just more to go wrong

you could leave one of those things sitting on the side of the road for a month with the keys in the ignition and a box of piss on the passenger seat and the only thing that would go missing would be the box of piss

Someone would probably even put a nice cover over it so children didn't have to go through the horror of seeing it on the way past.

I reckon you should padlock it like this.

If you tilt your head to the right you can see they even got it perfectly level. Talent.

Hey you lot are so unkind to Ladas!
I was mad enough to own a Lada Samar in the 90's, have to say it is the only car I fondly remember for all the faults and challenges it presented me with and I did not have to go 4wd to create them. No other car I have owned, can I joke or reminisce about, they are just too plain reliable. All my work colleagues were so dissapointed when I sold it because they could no longer tease me.
See, there is a silver lining to every Lada, you just don't realise it until you have owned one!

Giovanii has fitted central locking and it works great. a key and lock set from G motors is cheap enough.

the universal central locking kit weights about 1 kg
