Can a vehicle fail a WoF because of having too much brake pedal travel, even if the brakes are still effective enough?

not that i'm aware of. afaik as long as the brakes meet the minimum stopping power and no damage to lines then its ok.

however having looked at the testers guidelines manual it tends to leave things open to interpretation a fair bit. that was a fair few years ago now but the point is sometimes its just down to testers interpretation of the rules.

I know its not the answer to the question you asked but have you had a look at why you have excess pedal travel, thats usually consistant with brake shoes needing adjusting up?

I have adjusted the shoes.

We've now taken out the master cylinder, and will replace all the rubber seals. Hopefully it will be better then.

You can fail, I had on my lada once apona time b4 dad brought it and put new pads all round

sorry bit tired,

Had a diesel lada goood truck but failed on brake pedal travel, still passed brake test, but we pulled all the pads out that ended up being f@#ked and put new ones in and now its sorted, my dad now owns it.

I think we replaced it when we first brought the truck

the common one for long travel which i had but it never failed a wof, is worn drums. pointless replacing pads, even oversize, if the drums are heavly worn. i got some 2nd hand ones and it was good.

whenever i get long pedal travel its usually just the rear brakes out of adjustment.
