Auto vrs Tiptronic - low range

Hi all, still looking at options to improve my low range and came across a few forums referring to tiptronic. So here goes
Would a tiptronic gearbox pull me more towards manual gearing ? as the transfer case is the same between manual and auto (so I believe)
Can you retrofit a tiptronic from a 1999 GDI to a 1997 SWB Auto Pajero 3.5
I know I can get a Marks Kit (rock crawler) ,not quite ready for that option going by forum do's and dont's overseas
Thoughts ?

The tiptronic is still an auto gearbox...
What are the don't's from overseas for the crawler gears?

Apparently the gears are way too low for normal 4 wheeling in mud. They are designed for rock crawling at super super slow speeds, thus way too low for normal use ... apparently.

OK, now that I have all the facts at hand , YES Marks Low Range kit the best option. The Forums I was looking at were referring to US sights and to do with rock crawling , my Bad !

Cool. Please keep us updated on this project as this kit is on my wish / wont list as I have the same vehicle. There are posts on various web sights with mixed comments. Be good to see what a fellow Kiwi as to say regarding instillation and end use.

Yea there are a few in NZ that have done the swap so far. All them have great comments. There is a chap in Dunedin I know quite well who did it. I will do it whenever the gearbox comes out next,just hasnm't needed to since I did the clutch a few years ago. The thrust bearingis squealing again now so it may be close!
Basically, 2nd gear becomes 3rd, etc and you get a lower 1st, good for winching.
The only downsides are it is a bit noisier in low range with gear noise.

Could not get the gears, none being produced at time I ordered so shelved for now. Will re visit soon

I've been considering putting a momentary switch in to lock up the torque converter (for extra engine braking). So far I've chickened out though as I get the feeling the lockup clutch might not cope with the load. I really need to talk to an AT specialist.
The AT computer always immediately releases the lockup whenever the go pedal is released, so this clutch never sees over-run torque. Possibly because the AT hydraulic pressure is low when there's no pedal? I'm just guessing.
I just want someone else to do this before I do!
