Hi can anyone advise me on what the biggest tires i can get to put on my standard 1995 v6 5dr escudo???

I got 245/75/R16 (30.7") on the standard rims on mine. The guards rub and you have to do some hammer work and/or a body lift to stop the rubbing. 225/75/R16 I think fit without modification though you loose ground clearence over the larger tyre.
What do you plan to do with the vehicle?
