Having a Play in the Maungakotukutuku Valley

Post by Overkill »

Short notice, I know, but if anyone wants to join a few trucks in a bit of wheel spin in the Maungatooks this Sunday let us know.......

Meeting place will be at the beginning of the Maungakotukutuku Valley road (PM me for directions if needed) at a time of 10.30am till whenever you want

Bit of rain has been laid in the past couple of days so should be a great time for playing.

The best part of it is, there will be Landrovers there incase anyone need to be extracted

As long as there is no disruption of the logging works then there should be no problem, the tracks are all open and there are no signs saying no offroading. The only place to stay out of is on the other side of the river in the reserve. I walked through there the other day looks like its been a few years since 4x4 have been through there and years since anyone has walked it. Getting sick of moaning tree huggers getting land access blocked and then seeing it do nothing and not used for anything...

Oh yeah might see you there Overkill, will see how it goes. Got a body lift now so might have to try that track that I got stuck at last time haha! See if a Terrano can kill another tow strap.

Everything/where you do/go that is part of a regional council, DOC land will always be at your own risk in open areas like the Maungatooks, Odlins Road, North Range Road........We will leave the area as we came in and will use tracks already formed and will follow the "Tread Lightly" principle, but at the end of the day, as I have been informed, you do it at your own risk.

If anyone wants to do a WRC informed trip (as long as you have a key), PM me and we can do a quick organise tomorrow

Well, ended up having a great day playing with a great bunch of guys :D Went in and the weather was absolutely perfect, ground was sloppy with a firm base, every truck went in and came out without killing anything, you really could not get a better day for fun

6 tucks went is, a big thanks to charliespaj and octanpwr for joining in, we hope you guys had as much fun as we did.

Was having too much fun wheeling and forgot to take lots of pics, but did manage to get out and take one of myself bellied on rise and going nowhere fast  Also have a few vids I may put up if I can get a MTS converter that does the whole track and not half (evaluation version).

Here's a pic of octanpwr getting a little tug out after getting front deep in some really smelly sticky poo.......

Myself in the same boat, stuck solid on the belly......

LOL  We got stuck good and proper so after we were winched back we just drove around to the road. I will give it a go next time once I get a bar on the front (hopefully in the next couple of week 8) ), it was pretty deep and sticky after all the rain. You missed an awesome day

Good effort haha. Yeah I was hoping to come out but I ended up going trial riding on the other side of the Maungatuks from the Karapoti side.

I've done a body lift and have started building new front Winch bar for the Terrano now so hopefully will have that finished and ready to test out soon!
