Post by chrome »

how far away from the winch should the fairlead be... is there a rule of thumb or just as space allows.
any opinions??

the further you go, within reason of course the better it will spool.

If you follow industry practices, I calculated my Toyota factory PTO would need to be 4m....
But that aint going to happen.
Been told 1m is good.... but for my application can only get 700mm...

I have the fairlead hard up against the winch due to space availability and approach angle.

It works fine.

Any distance you can get on it, away from the drum is an advantage.

50mm is better than hard up against the winch, but 100mm is a big improvement over 50mm type deal.

once you start getting a bit of distance then you can also start narrowing the fairlead down a bit and that will help stop it from over spooling on 1 side as fast when pulling from the side

you know what i mean :?:
