Water injection vs WTA intercooler setup

What to go for?? all up it would cost about $700 for a water to air setuhttp://www.frozenboost.com/product_ ... 0749ef69bp from the states

or just go for a water injection set uphttp://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listi ... =383211252.

the other week going over to the mount i could only go at 3/4 gas up the hills as it would hit 600deg. towing a race car back from Auckland fine at 95km 400deg hills the same 590deg.
The water injection kit looks easier to install, and might be the way to go.

wheres the egt probe placed?

i've been on some of the WI forums for some time. they generally agree go intercoolers first, WI 2nd, especially in NZ's climate.

also one of the problems is that WI can go through large amounts of water, depending on setup. having a source of CLEAN water is not always possible on long trips.

I have the probe where the ERG block off plate is befor turbo, as soon as i hit 7psi or more the temps start to rise.Oh it is on a navara with a td27t.

That is where you want the probe, pre turbo.

600c is fine. worry when it hits 800.
thats assuming it hasn't got anything like atmo only pistons in it.

Personally if you have the space I would stuff a big front mounted air to air intercooler into the truck.

I would have used on on my surf but i didnt have the room..
My subaru w2a setup dropped my egt from 550- under 400 does a good job but i feel that the air to air would be better.

whats your max boost under load?,like with the trailer on

I'd go water injection if I did a diesel again

14 psi in 1,2,3, 12 psi in 4,5 it is an atmo motor turbo charged but pistons and compression are the same just the oil squirters and little end are different, the motor has only done 170km.
Every one has different ideas on max egt 650,700,800 is there some one that works with diesel motors day in day out that can comment.

Hey mate I have a Methanol Injection kit on my truck, and its great running at 100k she's hitting 250d, they out perform a Intercooler because a intercooler only cools to ambient temperatures , 20 litters of water last a tad over 1200 kms

Awesome DDAN, got any pics or what brand is your kit?
Have you thought about intercooling as well?

Hey whats your email ad and ill send some pictures and info, I have test with a intercooler and methanol injection cool 18 d cooler then my front mount intercooler still running both in my 1KZTE best of both worlds, but it is now a 1KZT because I got rid of the factory fuel pump and went with a manual one, with the water methanol injection you should see some were around 40 hp increase at the rear treads, will be doin a dyno run soon. Even with the system turned of your truck will run cooler, after a few tanks through her the engine will be so much cleaner e.g. valves inlet manifold, it steam cleans your engine.

you can't even get the pro's to agree on it.
it depends a fair bit on the actually engine. eg a lot of modern engines run 800 in stock form. remember EGT's is still only an indicator of what piston temps are. a lot of it depends on what cooling the pistons gets.

i forgot to ask what pre cups it has. some of the atmo engines ones are smaller than the turbo version and tend to have higher flame temp than the turbo engine. they can end up blowing holes in pistons even at low egt's. TD42's are an example of it.

what size nozzle and what pressure(s) does it come on at?

Ive got a DO1 pre turbo and a DO3 pre inlet manifold and the hole system is run on a progressive controller so as low settings and a high setting and ramps it up in between to 250 psi at the pump for a very fine fog mist

sounds like devils own ;)

i'm just ordering a system for mine while the $$ is reasonably.
it sounds like low usage. i did math on a system for another ute and it was 20+ litres per 700km. simply because its running all the time. (10psi at cruise)
i guess your injection is not running at cruise.

When im 4wd and driving around town have it come on at 2 PSI and when im on the open road have it set at 7 PSI to 20 pound of boost, pre turbo is the go the pipe coming of the turbo is cold and comes on boost real quick, unreal makes it act like a bigger turbo because it stays cool and the air stays dense so as to pump less air, sure is that brand they are great to deal with, and are very quick took 6 days to get here to my door, I would go with the progressive controller much more you can do with it

i've gone with the boost switch one at the moment. might go pre turbo later depending on how clean my alcohol mix turns out like.
i will set it to come on at max boost only until i can fit bigger tanks.
the ute i had originally planned for i could have fitted 60l-100l tank with ease and would have gone variable.
this ones a little tight for room.

Got any pics of your setup? Do you need to mix, or can you just run water? (not after huge boost increase, just hoping to keep the head from cracking too early...)

Cheers

i carn't find any info on pre cups in the td series service manual.
in saying that most of the limits/sizes ect are for both td27 & td27t.

Whats your email ad ill send some pic, If you wont more power you run 50% Methanol 50% water, or just Strait water for cooling water out cools methanol twice as much

Any opinions on the "coolingmist" brand? Would rather spend the money on the right product to start with

did fuel consumption increase with this kit added? do you need to ad a mechanical pump on? thinking this could be a good thing for my on road surf with a 1kzte (non in tercooled) would i require one added on?

water injection will be available at all speeds, and you don't have to worry about your heat exchanger heat soaking. Both have pumps, and the water air intercooler can take ice and possibly get you to below ambient temperatures.
