Hi All,

Just busted a front CV reversing out of the drive

Can anyone think of a reason not to replace with a Toyota OEM CV?

I replaced mine with some generic thing from an auto parts store

less than a year later it was clicking and now its clicking real bad

I may have to save pennies for chromoly or better this time

if not wanting to go to the expence of chrome molly then oem is the second best option

got to ask why it broke "just reversing out the drive way" tho

check for wore brass sleeve in the hub or a worn drive plate

these will booth stuff the cvs up

Er lets see. Was installing new stereo, change into low ratio to give enough space to take face off dash. Had to move truck half way through for mrs to get out, reversed out of drive and steered round to park on road... she came out I drove back in. didn't think anything of it until turning right at the traffic lights and heard a clicking bugger!

So got home from school thing last night, started to swap drive flanges for FWH's so I could drive to work, couldn't get passenger side one off (got told off for hammering out front of house at 11pm) so had to bike in this morning

Ah and bike light was broken, + hardly any air in bike tyres....

ARGH!!!!!

mines been clicking for a year or so now, but still works


maybe if you decide to go down the road of replacing them, then find some free wheeling hubs at the same time and do the poor mans 2wd conversion as well

I already had spare hubs from the prado, so started to fit those last night. Will put them on and pull front drive shaft until I can afford new CV's...

Checked Toyota parts and its a shame prado ones won't work as I have two sat in the garage!!!!

oh and there was a real cool mud trip on private land this weekend that my boys were looking forward too for the last month and now we cant go...

i got chromoly CV for 80 series $500 off trade me, had to wait a month before it arrived.

Was that $500 for the pair.
What brand, were they Nitro or other.

You can get ones from YURI4x4 on 80soffroad a pair is around $470 AUS, he buys NTN and treats them

you can throw a bit more money at it and go longfield 80 series cv's or superset axle/cv sets while the NZD is so good

Still gonna be $1200ish landed, I don't have the cash right now, having just bought an exhaust and starting on the front bar

Is there any interst in some 80 longs as I am doing another shipment end of July

it would be worth putting the vernier over the two as i thought that axle and FWH splines were the same as well as the lenght
it is only the actual cv outer shell that is larger compared to the prado might be able to get you going until you get the coin to buy oems or chrome mollys

Are you meaning the inner or the outer of the cv?
Prado inner should be 27 spline (i have prado cv's on hilux axle's which are 27 spline).
The outer on the prado should be 30 spline (again i use 30 spline hilux free wheel huds) I would have thought 80 series outer were 30 spline also.

yes thats what i thought as hilux/60 earlier 70 where all the same and prado where the same spline but the outer cv shell had a extra thickness on them then the 80 was bigger shell again but the spline and what not were the same

i will have to dig under the house and pull a set out and check now that the question marks are flashing in my head

80 series use a different internal spline count/size on there cvs compared to hilux/cruiser. ie axle into cv .hope this helps

yea 24? i think axle to cv but the drive flange is the same size/spline as beam axle hilux or cruisers but as normal not ifs cos they different.

righty oh then that save me digging the old ones out

Yes correct Ben, axle to CV is 24 spline, actuallythe same as inboard end of IFS Surf half shaft.

Hi,
Would there be any interest in some Longfield CV's or Supersets for your 80.
Have been told that on a constant 4WD they are good for about 80,000 miles (128,000 km) as they wear. But if you have free wheel hubs and part time kit will last much longer.

Could do CV's for about $550 each and Supersets for about $1450. Could be a bit less depending on numbers.
