lifting my nissan patrol

Post by Hbhunter »

hi all, just after a bit of advice on lifting my LWB 89 patrol,
I have found a new set of dobson springs (uncompressed about 450mm)aparently about a 3" lift not sure wat a standard spring hight is,
and nitro raw max's shocks, fronts compressed are 430mm ,extended 675mm and the rears compressed are 460mm, extended 730mm. aparently for about a 3" lift also, If i was to put these in would i have to modify or change anything else on my wagon, i am also running 32x12.5s on it as well. dont wont to get to serious, or spend to much just enough to have a bit of fun and get bit of clearance, any advice would be great, thanks 8)

both front and rear panhard rods , to start, to get the body centred over the axles again, brake hoses need changing to longer ones, diff breathers lenghtened, front radius arm bushes to off centred ones or drop boxes. and a cert
89 safari, pto winch, 33x15 simexs. sliders,75mm lift . turbo intercoolered

Best way would be fit them, then with vehicle on a hoist, check the brake lines are long enough, and coils remain captive.
3" is usually the highest you can go without having to do castor bushes, panhards etc, although take it for a drive too, as you may decide to get castor bushes done.

All trucks are different when it comes to lifting, and brands are different too, as in, 3" in one brand, may be equivalent to 4" in another.
Driveline vibes MAY occur, in which case a spacer under the gearbox should help, but again, this varies vehicle to vehicle.

May need cert too

You'd wanna look at lengthing you brake hoses from chassis to diff. Easyist way is put the rear one up front and getting a longer one for the rear.
My shorty has a 3in lift and drives/handles fine with out castor correction/panhard work.Up to you if you want to do that.

Other than that you should be sweet. You might get drivline vibrations but nothing to worry about. If you do and don't like it a 10mm spacer in the trans crossmember should fix it.
I'd get it cert'd to.

Those springs will probably compress about 75 to 100mm under load depending on spring rate and if you have extra weight on front such as winch etc.
I put similar set on my LWB ,Raw shocks but went with cobra 60mm springs as a bit firmer for towing. The intial lift was about 90mm but original springs were a bit sagged.
I drove it for a while but it did not feel right so fitted castor correction bushes and difference was very noticable. So I would do them and extended brake lines too. Had no vibration issues and it handled better on road as well . If doing alot offroad consider the rubber castor bushes over the nolathene ones as flex better apparantley.
