A cheap fix, take it down to your local exhaust shop and get them to add a piece of pipe in place of the cat, should only cost $80. 2.5 inch all the way through with a freeflow muffler sounds nice on the 3 ltr, add a nice set of Genie headers and she can go aswell.

Yeah get rid of the factory one and add a flow master type and you will get the performance increase and it will still keep the "ricer noise" from being too great. Have a good chat to the guys at Pitstop or Midas for options on Mufflers.

keep saving

its best to do it all at the same time, can work out cheaper than doing bit here bit there. no you dont need 2 mufflers only reason for a muffler is to quiet down the exhaust. mine has one which is in the middle
needs more curry

I cut the muffler out of my kzn130 and it sounded real throaty with a nice turbo spool on top and still passed warrents, wasn't loud at all, depends on which engine I guess

i got a 2.5'' pipe on my 4d56t with only one of the shortest cobys i could buy and its pretty loud and the turbo whistles like hell thru it like a c-12 cat almost. but it has a very spine chilling growl to it i just love it.
