Yes its on again!! The Hanmer Mudplug on Sunday the 31st of July. 10am. Spectators welcome, bring the family for a fun and exciting day. Food etc available. We had more entries than places last year so get in early and book your spot. Stages will be set to cater for 3 different classes. They will be fun, safe but challenging for all competitors. Come and check out the progress at Pucker Park. Limited to 40 trucks. Scrutineering from 8.30. Spectator entry $10 Per Person or $25 for Family. Competitor entry $40 per vehicle (includes entry for Driver and Navigator) Great prizes for all competitors.

Clubman- Max 33 inch tire, one traction aid, current WoF

Open- Max 35 inch tire, two traction aids, current WoF

Outlaw- Max 37 inch tire, Any other modifications allowed

Hey mate, How are the hazards going to work for this event are they all time trialed like the Easter event or will it run the same as last years event?

Good question! Because we ran 2 classes on the same stages at easter we needed to bring in the time factor, but this time we will run slightly different courses on the same stage. I guess its easier for us to score without the time factor, but what's the preference?

points as opposed to time.. similar to sheffield scoring...?

I agree with the others about how sheffield was pegged and run, Personally i like a good technical coarse that's scored on points because it tests the driver skill which helps even the playing field between purpose built buggy's and modified club trucks etc.
I don't think theres alot of skill needed in going fast and smashing my truck trying to get a good time.
Just my 2c others may think differently.

i enjoyed the last one at easter but the only thing that got my driver annoyed was it seemed the marshalls were abit disorganised and kinda didnt have a clue wat they were doing.

Bugger for me, Outlaw class has a max tyre size of 35's that's me unable to enter......1 inch too big
I guess i'll just have to come and watch the fun from the sideline


on further reading Jase the entry form states ;

Choose Class (Tick One)

Class A............33 inch tyre maximum, One traction aid, Current WoF.

Class B............35 inch tyre maximum, two traction aids, Current WoF

Open Class.....Over 35 inch tyre, No WoF required, Buggies etc

Tyre sizes are judged by whats written on sidewall. No tractor tires allowed

All vehicles will be scrutineered prior to event start to finalise class entry.

pretty sure you would be in open class,some of the vehicles had 36's in the last event?

i`m sure that should be open to any mod, including tyre size.
yes there were other with 36 inch tyres last time.

You've bought up a good point there Tim, and yes it is confusing the way its worded. So in order to prevent that confusion the new wording for open class will be

Open Class.... Maximum 37 inch tyre, No WoF required, Buggies etc

Both other classes will remain as is.

While we're on the subject what sort of prizes do you guys prefer? We normally do the usual stuff like tow strops, t shirts etc but is there a preference? or do any of you have any ideas? I know its great just to compete especially at Pucker Park but we aim to keep you guys happy so are keen for any input.

have ya been able to put any more thought into the points scoring system and how ya gonna run it bud?

as for prizes, i think strops and cool tee's are always worth it.. hi lift jacks? axle stands? trolley jacks? toolboxes? screwdriver sets? allen key sets? oils? sprays? snorkels or hats? work lights? socket sets? wiring connectors/crimps or soldering stuff? just tryin to throw things out there, not sure what could be seen as affordable/applicable...

I agree with nibby's list, also what about If you guys have sponsers from maybe accomadation places or thermal pools in hamner and maybe get an over nite package together as a main prize? Maybe free day passes back to the park?

i wont be able to go in this one sorry h2o.. i've got a few bodies turnin up on that day that i need to look after..

Most definitely still on . Courses are set, weathers looking good. There is a winch challenge at Hurinui on Saturday and provided they don't break trucks we are expecting a good turnout from some of these lads as well. Entries are coming in strongly this week so looking like a great turnout of competitors. Will be taking entries on the day for anyone who decides to enter at the last minute with no limit on the number of trucks. Scrutineering from 8.30 with event start approximately 10am. See you there

No pics from me sorry no camera, Dad (co-pilot) took some shots so will grab his cam in the next day or so.
Weather was awesome and scenery second to none.....oh and the 4-wheeling was great fun cheers to the organisers
We went pretty well all things considered, coil failed before the last event, so had a DNF in the last event and still managed 4th place in the open class, Pete had his buggy singing and got a fully deserved 2nd , Cros grabbed 3rd place with his winch navi driving.
Truck runs fine when cold, shits out when hot, will have a new coil before the next trip out, really looking forward to some west coast wheeling....trials type events are all good but not really my thing.
We got an excellent prize and agian thanks to the organisers

No pics or vid from me either, was too busy having fun driving. managed 2nd in class and from what I can see through the mud, no damage. Someone was filming me through the mud drag, so i hope it turns up on here.

Ashley was my co driver for the winch challenge the day before. I thought I'd let him drive a few hazards on this day, the day after. And I must say. He made a difficult hazard look very easy. He drove all the morning hazards with no penalties and that was a better effort than mine. Well done Ash!

Yep had a great day weather turned it on and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. We ended up with 19 entries. 11 in Open class and 4 in each of A and B class. Overall winner on the day was Alvin Frew in an A class truck which just goes to show you don't need all the bells and whistles if you know what your doing (probably why my truck has bells and whistles ). Pete came close to getting the "Big Air" prize until a crazy bugger in a Terrano who had no respect for his suspension gave us a great show as he literally flew across the finish line on the speed section . Also had a great rollover on the speed section by the boys from Ace 4WD in their Rugger. Managed to bend just about every panel Once the truck was back on its wheels and the oil had settled they still carried on to complete the day. So some great viewing to be had, I have got some pics and video which i will post up once i get it.
A huge thanks to all the competitors who turned on a great show and also to the guys from the Suzuki club who again turned up to support the event by taking care of marshalling. These guys are fantastic supporters and have become an integral part in the success of our events, without their help we wouldn't be able to do it. Hopefully the roast meal at lunchtime will keep you coming back.
