Yep been there heaps (but not lately)
You used to be able to drive up to the fence approx 1/2 way up.
But there is a big slip that made the track impassible, I have heard you can get around the slip by dropping into the river and driving up there.
The fence is as far as you are meant to drive as beyond that it is National park.
Approx 1-1 1/2 hour walk from there to Casey Hut
Someone will have been there more recent and be able to inform as to current track conditions. :?:

Pretty obvious to find - left onto the grass/mud track just before you drop down to the Poulter bridge across to Mt White Stn. Track's OK for a single well set up truck with some self recovery gear. Minimum 2 trucks if you're on 31" AT's or not so sure. Mostly good farm tracks but the odd soft spot. One clay hill (downhill on the way up the river) can be greasy to come back up. From the Nat Park Bdy the river downstream is easy travel at first but a few of the lower crossings can be a bit deeper / rocky.
Really nice day trip. Keep in mind you are in the back country in winter with no cell phone and no ones able to rush to you in half an hour if it all goes wrong, so take a bit of warm gear and food.
