Help with 6stud disc'd axle widths

Post by ruf_zuki »

Hi guys, Im needing a bit of help with axle widths.

Im building a Bagged Datsun 521 for a guy which is staying 6 stud as he wants to keep the standard wheels. It will be running a v8 of some sort so the rear axle will need to be tuff and If im going to be using another axle then it might as well have discs.

Im no newbie to disc conversions on drum brake axles but he is wanting to keep this a budget build so If I can buy an axle that will suit the requirements without having to machine stuff then that would be good.

I originally thought of using a Terrano axle but im afraid it might need to be narrowed. Terrano's also have bad ratios for highway driving so its got me thinking about other Models. Ive done a heap of searching but itl take me eons to find all the correct info im after.
Basically the narrower the axle the better, that way a big wheel with lots of 'dish' could be run if he ever decides to.

What other axles could be used and what widths are they?

Pajero
Vitara/Escudo (are these 6stud and would they handle the power)
Jeep Cherokee's
Mazda Proceeds

Any help with widths and suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

you can quite often find previously narrowed hilux ones in the performance section on t me, its a common conversion with the added benifit of shit loads of availiable ratios

Hilux are 5stud and you cant get 5x114.3 - 6x139.7 adaptors. The p.c.d ends up over one stud. Plus people ask STUPID amounts for hilux diffs with good ratios.

I could pickup a complete 4.3 LSD terrano axle from pick-a-part for less than $100 but itl cost $600+ to narrow it.
