LN106 cab onto a KZJ78 Chassis...... with a Lexus

Post by 1UZ-LUX »

Hi there Guys

New to this forum and as I am embarking on a new project I thought Id get some knowledge and ideas before I jump off the cliff.

What I have now is an Flatdeck LN106 Hilux with a 1UZ running a G4. E-locker in the rear and lockrite in the front.

What I want is coils. Leafs suck.

I was entertaing the idea of just coiling the front end but on investagation of cost of parts, engineering ability, cert, blah blah I had the bright Idea of just getting a full 70 series Chassis and dumping the whole lot on. That way I get to dip the chassis when I strip it bare and I also get a coiled arse end and rear discs. Anyone done similar? Pros Cons? Will it fit easy enough? Which way is easier you reackon?

I also need some new gumboots for her. Probably 33's but maybe 35's but I dont really want to jack her up too high to fit em. Want MT's as I drive reasonable distances to get it dirty and also do rivers so that rules out the likes of Centepedes and Silverstones. Am leaning towards Maxxis Bighorns? Have got a set of road Muddies (31's with decidedly less tread on the rear) so this will be a second set. Do I want to go wide or keep em slim given I have power to burn.

Also has anyone got any engine bay Pics of a twin snorkle set up for a 1UZ? Or custom airbox for said setup? Much appreciated.

Will whack up some pics once I get underway with the whole affair.

Cheers

Jarrad

What part of thenation you in?

I have heard of hilux bodys on prado chassies before but you still require cert and a rolling chassie wontbe cheap either mate.

Hawkes Bay.

Yea I know I will need a cert. I already need one for the work done so far may aswell do it all together. The cert process will be easier though as its really just an engine swap with some modifed cab mounts.

even a lj78 chassiewhich is the 2.4 model will work.

but stillnot cheap to get,do a coil conversion on your current truck could mean you could do a 5 link set up to get heaps more flex than standard prado set up

Yea but its not a full offroader. It gets used round town and hunting trip etc so road manners are important. I can buy a KZJ78 for 4K. Sell all the shit I dont want eg engine, cab, tyres, diffs etc and it shouldnt even owe me 2K which is within the budet.

keep the diffs. espec the front, swap the lokka over as it is a high pinion = much stronger.
this would be a nice build, cant wait to see pics
swb lux with 7mge, trailgear crossover, trailgear rear lift kit, custom front bar, runva 1200lb winch, custom snorkel, 37" Mtrs, custom deck, lockright in the rear.

Mate of mine just sold a complete rolling chassis (LJ78) for $1400

cheapest way of doing a full coil conversion :D

Yea mate by far the cheapest way, ive seen 3 lj78 prados get sold for under 1g with everything there including body and interior with a blown 2lt, they are worth nothing and are a easy swap if throwing a different cab on. :D

A lot of Landcruisers have an off set in the rear diff, may or may not be an issue.

Your on the right idea... not becouse of the work involved but because we have nobody in the bay that can cert steering
Your cab swop and UZ repower, Richard from Premier Motors in Hastings can cert
The 33"s will be easier to cert (less mass to push the brakes  )
The elocka can be made to fit the prado rear there is a how too on pirate that I can track down if you need, not certain about the locka into the high pinion front tho

Talked to Richard at Premier and he cant do the cert. Needs to be a scratch build and as such Palmy is the closest for certing. Bit of mucking around doing trips down there..... :x

Haydgq, at that price, I'd buy one. Keep an eye out for me :D
If you break it... build it stronger.
