Need more flex!
i have a 2001 jeep wrangler and need more flex.already have a 50mm lift with raw shocks and cobra springs. How do i get more flex with out spending to much $$$?

Fit some swaybar disconnects on the front swaybar. Run the softest springs you are happy with.

chuck the rear sway bar out, handles fine without one

they are a quick release gizmo that you disconnect and tie up out of the way so your front end can boogie, look at http://www.offroadspecialties.co.nz

at the rear of your transfer case, the output shaft is quite long and the driveshaft actually slides up and down it ( not like a normal driveshaft where the sliding occurs in the driveshaft itself )as your rear suspension moves up and down, this is a slip yoke drive shaft, see this on youtube it will explain better than I can www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdBaJfBfkdo as you raise your jeep the pinion angle changes and binding of slip yoke can and will occur especially when you're offroad, mine broke shaft just as it enters housing and blew my tranfer case to bits
, I went for a mega short SYE and a modified 92 Hi-lux driveshaft, with flanges not u-joints, and it's awesome

heres an idea, get out there and drive it and learn before you spend far too much money on crap you probably never needed in the first place only to have the stock standard 410 suzuki from down the road drive further than you

Do you want more flex so you can look cool or do you want more flex so you can go more places??
If you want to go more places I would argue that a diff lock in the rear would get you further along any track than more flex would for the equivalent $$.
Ya open your rear diff up and slap a the locker in. Everything else can stay stock as Mr Jeep intended it to be after all their R&D.
To get more flex you need longer springs, shocks, brake lines, steering mods, slip yoke eliminator, aftermarket adjustable radius arms the list goes on.........
With a locker, you don't need to bother with any of that crap, your suspensions stays as awesome and balanced as it was standard.
That's were I was coming from with the locker comment anyways

In that case IMO your best bet is to leave the suspension stock, as you run into all sorts of weird issues with a jeep due to the short radius arms and other freaky stuff like the slip yoke D/S etc
Price up a diff lock instead. That way even if it has lifted a wheel due to running out of articulation, the locker will still allow you to drive through it.
With a locker, lifted wheels and lack of flex don't matter anymore

Hey WRNGLR, who did your SYE driveshaft for you and roughly what did it cost? I'm looking at doing a 3-4" lift and feel this conversion is an important part of the process. Cheers

I've got a 4" lift, with a SYE and front sway disconnects. (need to remove the rear sway)
I'm pretty happy with my flex (getting different rims/flares soon so i can stop the rubbing).
Here is a pic of it flexing, it can flex more (drain wasn't that deep haha was just mucking around)

I bought the bits after smashing my trans case and did it my self, dead easy but do it with trans case out of truck, not in place like some say you can. got the bits from Greg in Wangarei , offroadspecialties.co.nz, all instructions come with it , easy to follow, one specialised tool needed which I have to remove flat circlips, cost me about $1800 all up for a mega short SYE but that was including a second hand trans case aswell, would cost about $1100 or there abouts for SYE and driveshaft

Another question on flex; is it fairly straight forward to remove the rear sway bar? Might do mine the next time i head out offroading

Real easy, a nut on each side of the truck that holds the swaybar onto the swaybar droppers and 2 bolts that hold the brackets with bushes onto the diff

Yup dead easy Phraza, a total of six bolts/nuts , took me about 15 minutes , had a bit of a rest while I was under there so the missus didn't give me any jobs.
