I recently bought a 3rd gen Hilux and the first time I took it offroad the friggen 4WD wouldn't engage at all. Yeah I got stuck and had to be pulled out.
Turns out the centre diff actuator was poked so I've had that replaced and now all 4WD modes work fine except the 4WD lights just keep flashing whenever you select any mode of 4WD.
Any clues?

sounds like a plug on the transfer case has been nocked or is not been put back on properly. failing that use search function for other ideas as this problem with surfs comes up at least once a month
Current 4wd: Surf Kzn185 ssrg factory Intercooled (yet to start build)
Past 4wd: toyota surf ln130, coil sas, 1uz v8 build

I just had the same problem, it was the connector on the small wiring loom coming up from the front diff, it's under the passenger side battery. Chances are it'll be there or the diff end, one connector at the front and one at the rear.
Good luck!

Well I fixed it but what I did shouldn't of worked. There are two transfer indicator switches (2&4) http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_199512 ... _8401.html
and when I disconnected them both the system works fine. In theory it shouldn't work. What the heck is going on? With these disconnected all modes of 4wd work and the dash lights work as well
Also, corection, when these are connected, 4wd doesn't work.
