hows it going every1
after a hard weekend of offroading the old 2.4 finaly gave up so time for a new engine, i want something with a bit more up n go have been looking at a few engines and i decided i want a v8, form the reseach iv done it seems the holden 308 is a commem engine that fits into a hilux, now i have a 1988 ln61 2door surf with 35s and i was wounding if theres any 1 out there that has done this conversion before tht could help me out abit??

1uz v8s are getting real common in hiluxes now. mate has 1 and gos nuts and im finnaly dropping my 1uz into the surf after getting it ready to drop in. plus u can get 1uzs for under $1500 now

308 is getting abit long in the tooth now, but still not a bad choice.
IMO you need to have fuel injection in a USED off road rig and I know there are downfalls with this relating to breakdowns but I still reckon the benifits outweigh the negatives.
As stated the 1uz is popular, so there will be lots of advice on offer for it, I have a 305 inj holden in my surf (308 with injection), but I guess a lot of your decession is your abilty to do work yourself and/or bank balance. If the $ are not so much of an issue, I would be looking at one of the later model alloy engines.

What Rokhound said carbys suck on angles but the cast iron v8s have plenty of torque of the mark.
