timing belt
timing belt
Trying to lin up the cam and crank shaft, there are no marks on the head for teh cam to line up to, should it be pointing straight down, the only info I can find is for a second gen 2lt.
I'm guessing that if your putting a new timing chain you did your cogs as well
The manual I've got for the 3Y motor (2lt petrol) says (in alot more words and pic's
)
align both crank and cam shafts so that the keyways are facing up (if you had replaced the cogs you would find alignment marks for this on the inside cover)
The new chain should have two links marked about oposite each other on the chain with the cogs still aligned from install (keyways facing straight up) you should have a mark on the crank cog roughly at the bottom and on the cam cog at about 11:30 when you put the chain on the two marked links should match to these cog marks
Clear as mud
hope that was a bit of help
Oh buy the way thats the same motor I had in the lemon before all the fun started.... good luck
Cheers Reece

Here's a pic of a 2LTE, my guess is the timing mark on the cam should be of opposite direction to that of the fuel pump. Just a guess though.

Have welding rods will travel
In the above photo the small hole in the spoke of the cambelt pulley should be straight up from the pulley bolt, there will be a notch in the top of the crank pulley that will ine up with a mark in the alloy housing behind it.
The fuel pump pulley should then line up its marks on the top of the pulley also.
Once you have them all lined up mark them with some white paint or marker so you can see if they move easily.
I hope this helps.
