Bigger Turbo for a 1kzte thoughts on the matter

Righto I have a 1KZTE with a mechanical fuel pump on it, and standard turbo boosting 20 pounds of boost. Was on the dyno the other day and made 145hp and 347ft·lbf of torque at the rear not bad I thought, Now thinking of a bigger turbo for it, the CT26 of a VX 1HD-FTE came to mind, will get a new custom exhaust manifold made for it, Whats ya thoughts guys

they are a strong motor

Only thing is that since the turbo is so big it take bit longer to spool up, would be interested to see how you get on tough.

What exhaust are you running currently? and after market dump pipe?
3inch dum and exhaust(no muff or muff) should make a difference to the current set up

Would twin turbos cure the lagging issue?, also would a supercharger be better? (seems to work ok on bulletproofs yota)

Yeah thought of that with the bigger turbo, will put the exhaust side of the 1kzte side on the CT26 turbo, she hauls ass even with the current set up

My mate has fitted a ct26 but is still tryng to locate a disel inside to put in it and he finds that my truck with a full 3inch ehaust factory pump and ecu has more go than his did running 16psi standard set up and a chip and a 3inch from the flexy fitting in axhaust back.

even with just a compressor upgrade it'll have bit more lag so watch the egts at low boost.
Hav a look for a ct20b. flow the same as a ct26 but preform a WHOLE lot better. Toyota rteplaced the ct26 on the celica/supras with them. Apparently they spool up quicker. Should have the same bolt pattern to.
Dont think the ct20/26 have the same size core so wont fit together.

a bigger turbo will make it look heaps better on the dyno but probly will be worse everywhere else

i thought the CT20's on the supras where the dual turbo's ??
ie 2xct20 in parallel and a butterfly to divert exhaust through just one to increase spool up.
also they are the petrol CT20 not the diesel CT20. a fair bit of difference. of course CT20 comes out in the 2.4 turbo diesel.

Early 3S-GTE's had a ct26 and the later ones had ct20. The later model ones seemed to have more power and less lag with the ct20 turbo. They were in celica gt4's. I think the ct20 replaces the ct26.

I would use a TD05, 7cm exhaust housing, that's if I had one..
The only reason im using a massive turbo is because im after a heap of power for towing 200hp+ ATW..

The ct turbo i'm on about is the ct20b. big diff between them and the ct20 on the hilux motor. Is a better unit than even the ct 26.

Was gunna suggest that to but think he wants to be able to bolt straight on(?)

Tdo5 would be my choice to but only if it has a strengthened internal kit fitted,esp if using higher boost.

Sorry, ment ct20b. Its based on the ct26 but has a redesign exhaust housing, as the others said its supposed to be better than the ct26.

ur best beat will be to get steve murch build up ur ct20 he will make it flow more with out the lag he has been doing turbos for me for a long time very happy with his work

hey mate i had a chat to steve today he said about $1300 for your turbo to be moded then you just bolt it right back in the hole no mods

Id rather buy a band new Garret turbo from the states for cheeper then that, I no he is the best at what he does tho

he fits bigger compreser wheel changes the trust kit fits a bigger shaft back cuts exaust wheel fits all new seals blances and reasembles its like new the out side of the turbo is the same so you dont have to cut and weld to make a new one fit

all depends on suporting mods you have will be good for about 30 psi till it runs out of puff

Hey DDAN, I f you want your turbo modified I can get it done if you want for about $700.. That would include a new bearing kit.

I've got a tdo5 on my truck. Paid 200 for turbo, 130 for uprated rebuild kit and am good for 25psi.
Slap one of those on your truck and you'll be away laughing. head/manifold Flow issues will be more of an issue if your after more than that.

Hey all, Im really looking hard for a highflowed ct12b for my 1kz, I want to keep the stock turbo, due to a new dump just fitted and only want to hit 25psi for offroading, run 20psi all the time, but really want lower egts

can anyone out there offer any info or workshops that high flow these

Just fitted one to a cruiser after rebuilding the engine last week (std ct26 with to4 front wheel , increased response and power but i still hav not tuned the pump and fabricated the exhaust to go with it yes which will be restricting it a lot
