i want to take the rear windows and roof section off my mu and turn it into a ute,
does anyone know if it would affect wof? and would it need cert?
the only problem i can see is the rear seatbelt mounts but it become a 2 seater anyway.

they just unbolt dont they??
there was an option for a lift up lid for them,
you see them on trademe from time to time..will need to change it to 2 seater on their computer
wof would ok as long as seal it off from exhaust fumes..
do the early surfs get a wof with the back removed??

Hi GotFlex,
Yeah I have seen the Ute style of Mu's around with a hard back cover, I dont see why it will be an Issue, I have taken the back seat out of my Mu and seatbelts and have never being pinged for it, but like the above post I think you will have to seal it for exhaust fumes.
Seeing as it has noghting to do with drive train or chassie I dont think you would need a cert, but dont take my word for it.
Cheers

yeah i will try pull the interia this weekend and see whats involved (got told its 8 spot welds) how true that is is i duno
i would be putting a removable rear wall with a hilux window.
i would prefer to have it bolt on bolt off like the early surfs so might look at setting it up to do it. surfs do get them with out them on, the funny thing is if you have the canopy off fumes dont come back but if you have canopy on with window down they do

should be bolts rather than spot welds...
pretty sure you pop the trims off and theres bolts along the roof line and the rear corners, then the windows pop off with it...
been awhile since i owned one..
have you got a locale wrecker that has one to check out?

weird, our mu had a strip panel that ran across the roof lining, i took that off to find bolts there, and likewise along the base of the side windows...
i never took it off though cos we were always using it.

The top may be bolted but I know for a fact when I took my panels out the back to start it, it was going to need a grinder to cut the veryadt pillars

Can be done apparently but not easily. Remember reading an article in a 4WD mag where some one had done this and slotted in solid front axle and V8 at same time.

Having helped in doing this, there are no bolts and there are more that six spot welds. A big grinder is your friend for this job.
