2011 Winch Challenge - Mid Canterbury

Post by petefj40 »

Anyone here entered?

It's this Saturday. I'm looking forward to it. This will be my second time there. Last year was the first event I'd entered the buggy in. Was a big learning curve. Still is.
Would be cool if there's snow involved.

I'll post pix and vids in this thread (or links to em). Should be fun.

This is the link to it.

I know someone that's already working hard to get one on his truck before the weekend so he can be down there nibs.
There's no showing off in front of spectators mate (which is good for me when I fark up) but it's a hardcore challenge. You'd LOVE it.

I'll add some vids later. But here's a few pix of the day. Hoping there are more from others as most of mine are of our day.
Man, it was a taxing challenge on most trucks.

At the start of the day. And it wasn't cold at all.

Image

Hazard 8/9. First challenge of the day for every truck. Both hazards side by side which made it entertaining.
Unfortunate these hazards took out a few truck. Both Rick and I had damage. Rick was on the trailer after his effort. I'm sure everyone would agree his recovery from not rolling was VERY impressive! Pitty the busted rear drive shaft ended his day. But it could of been so much worse..
I thought I'd try this one without locking in the front hubs (I forgot after getting it off the trailer) and lost control of my decent smashing the right steering knuckle.

Image
Image

Thanks to the help of Rick and Ash it was game on after lunch.
Cheers guys.

Franks truck.

Double winch challenge.

Image

Was an awesome day. Croydon and Matt spent the day on me quad following taking pix n vids.

Image

Ash (me winch bitch) put in a good effort.

Image

This was the hazard that put me on the trailer in the afternoon.
I tried my best to get up, maybe half way. Then stall. Loosing control (again) of my desent, The right rear wheel ended up landing hard on to a rock bending stuff.

Thanks to the fellas that made this event a remember able one.
In spite of the breaks, it was an awesome day. Cheers!!!

I'll be back next year for sure.

The axle is fine. The right fox shock isn't. :(

I made it 2/3's up a steep climb. Lost traction. Motor stalled. Lost control of decent smashing left rear wheel into rock at the bottom. Bending swing arm. And twisting axle clockwise busting lower right shock mount.

Yep. Me and Ash are sorting out a new 4 link system for the rear before the Hurunui high country 4X4 Event on the 30th and the Hanmer Mud Plug event on the 31st of this month.

It's got to be done.

I think they'll be posted on the 4X4 Events website soon. I'd like to know too. But I do know Ash and I came 2nd in our class.
Even if we came last I'd still be happy, as there were only 4 entered in the Outlaw class.

In open class was richard robb 1st, don hayes 2nd, mike holmes 3rd and rick crosbie 4th. Only 4 in that class too. Was a great event plenty of big rocks and greasy steep banks as you can see by the petes pics. :D
