Recommendations on tracks around Auckland for beginners
Re: Recommendations on tracks around Auckland for beginners
There is very little available to the general public. Your best bet is to join a club a list is here.http://www.nzfwda.org.nz/clubs/

Re: Recommendations on tracks around Auckland for beginners
Hey there, newbie here myself. Attended my first meeting (Rodney Off Road Club) last night and was invited to follow a few of them around woodhills on Sunday, as they're on recovery duty which is cool and will give me some much needed tips and also a bit of insurance should I get stuck......which I hope I do hehehe! Great bunch of chaps and a wealth of knowledge so plus 1 from me for joining a club!

We were thinking about just going for a drive our Muriwai way (just so we can take it off road). I remember a few years back I went up South Head Road up past Parakai, there's a gravel road that heads out towards the West Coast, you go through a gate and then off road it for a bit till you get out to the Beach (can't for the live of me remember the name of the road). Does anyone know if this is still accessible? Or what the condition would be this time of year?
Cheers,
Ben and Jaimee
Wouldnt happen to be Wilsons road would it?

Lots of fun to be had up there... We went up about a month ago its the same as usual. Just drop tyre pressures down and you should be sweet. I got bored and did pretty much the whole thing in rwd.
Oh and +1 for Norwest OHV, we try get out and play as much as possible (even if its just a small group of us)
Cheers

Classic that you did it in rwd! Would have been interesting! Last time I was up there was in a rental hilux (not my idea!), and that first big ditch just about ripped the front bumper off.
Also does anyone know if the 'drop off' is still there/accessible?
Cheers for the info and pics

The drop off is still there and wont go away in a hurry, and for going down it you have to watch out that the red flag is not up, you will see it up attached to the signs they have around, this is for when the Army do there training and what not.
Best to go at Wilsons road end if you want to get to the drop off faster, saves doing all that Beach driving.
Cheers.
