Hey. Got a few questions.

I’m looking at three 4x4 a

90 Izuzu Bighorn 2.8TD,
93 Nissan Terrano 2.7 TD
93 Mitsi Pajero 2.8 TD

Can you guys give me your opinions pros and cons etc. I just want a reliable truck thats gona do the business and not crap out on me.
It will mainly be for hunting and mild 4x4. I will eventually lift it and chuck some bigger tyres on it.

Hey dude,

Welcome to ORE.

My pick of the litter would be Terrano. Have a mate with a near factory spec terrano (2" sus lift, 30" mud tyres) he has factory lsd, wound up boost and fuel and it goes very well for a beginner 4wd.

Would be perfect for hunting trips etc.

Where in NZ you from? and more importantly what do you hunt  8)

Cheers

Caleb

Cheers for the reply,

I live at the mount, couple of mates have got dogs for a bit of pork but I also want to get into deer stalking but need a truck to get me there.

As all trucks have there common faults what are the Terranos and what should you look out for when buying.

Where you from?

I've seen the paj 2.8 thrashed and they still come back for more. I'd probably still go terrano though given how I've seen em go and the beating they take. Read up on them all. Search function is your friend. You don't need a 4x4 to shoot deer either but it can sometimes be helpful parking your vehicle somewhere off the track where it wouldn't get ripped off

Search Terrano here and some common ones will come up
Where to start

Tie Rods
Draglink
Idler arms
Gearboxes

Don't mean to put you off. I'm hooked to them. If it wasn't for the TD27 and coil rear end, Id say don't bother

Cheers,

Nice, Im from Dorkland  wish I was way out in the country somewhere  Im planning on getting into deer hunting once my truck is ready to get me out of anywhere haha.

I know someone that has a 3.5 v6 pajero and he says to get the red soft top ones as they have rear locker and plenty of grunt, they take a hell of a beating and get you home.

My vote still goes with the terrano though

Any reason why you havnt expanded outside those 3 trucks?

There is nogthing wrong with the Bighorn but I would get the 3.1 TD model.

even tho I have an Isuzu MU the 3.1 TD model it is the same power plant as the Bighorn.

My next choice If it was me would be the Terranno.

Cheers.

i rate the 2.8 over the 3.1 usuzu all day everyday..
not sure what it is but every 2.8 weve owned has held up way better than any 3.1 weve had/driven..
and the 3.1s seem to turn to poohs...
isuzus are actually quite good trucks though, not sure what theyr like off road but they are good for towing stuff..

td27t's are almost bulletproof..pitty the gearboxes arent cos the terranos are a cheap truck to buy at the moment much like the early bighorn..
