I've seen a tidy '85 RR Vogue manual for sale cheap.
I haven't had much to do with RR's before, so is there anyone that knows a bit and can give me some tips on them please?
What to look for - what problems they are prone to - what improvements can be done, that sort of stuff.

I want another 4wd for hunting trips and cub family runs and this RR doesn't look too bad for an old girl.

Rear diffs are pretty fragile. OK with stock tyres but wont stand anything much bigger. The crosspin in the diff fails most commonly but spider gears sometimes go. Mate of mine blew 2 in 2 trips on 33s.

Best budget fix is probably a complete back axle from about 94 or later Disco (24spine) and fit aftermarket 4 pin centre, ARB, Detrioit, KAM...take your pick.

85-86 was about first of EFI models. The early EFI ones were "flapper" type. Later ones and Disco's are "hotwire". Getting hard to find parts for flappers now. Can swap complete hotwire system over but needs everything swapped, intake, ECU, AFM, idle valve etc etc. It may be carby so this may not apply.

land rovers are bullet proof ive had nissans and toymoters the most reliable truck ive owned is landrover just make sure all fluids are changed yearly an go itll go forever also you dont need 33s on rovers just good 31 inch all terrains will go any where effortlessly

your taking the piss right??? or are you actually saying that 31 inch A/T will take you anywere off-road in nz but only if they are on a Rover.?

Range Rover Classics are far from "Bulletproof"

To be honest they are a labour of love but if you get a good one that has been maintained to the Land Rover recomended maintenance schedule and continue with it they shouldn't give you too many problems .

The worst part is probably the Luc-ARSE electrical system. Can you use a multimeter? And as L-Andy said the rear axles are about as strong as a wet paper bag...

That all said I love mine and can't understand why anyone would want to drive anything else

ive had my rover for 4 years it starts everytime my old patrol was crap it cracked its chassis an yes mud terrains look cool but at end of the day there not that great
