Snatch strap and shackles

Gidday,
I've got an orange snatch strap, which I think is 8000kg or 10000kg or something like that, and it came with 2 rated shackles that are 3.25t.
Question is, are they strong enough to snatch off? I thought you could generate a fair bit of force that would exceed the 3.25t shackle....
Cheers

Nick

afaik should be ok. let the pros confirm tho.

its a pain but different products are rated differently. shackles are work load rated. actual breaking load is a lot higher. snatch straps are breaking load i think, but the ratings are a bit of BS. some brands are far better than others.

This has been covered before, but I'll humour you.
Snatch strap is ok, and shakles of enough "rating".
It depends on what they are attached to.
A 3.25t shackle makes a good projectile when the hook gives way.
I have found that a stitched strap can break and the result can be quite destructive. My hardwood dowel made a huge dent in a rear door of a Pajero
I now perfer to use spliced nylon rope instead.
This is what I use now. http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=131
My strap is only used for long recoveries now.
Check out this post for how things can go wrong.

got to watch those ropes tho. a lot more stretch in them so you can load up more power.

Here is a link to an article about ratings....
http://www.irata.org/uploads/healthandsafety/WLLSWL.pdf

WLL and SWL.
Any rated lifting system will have a max safe working load/weight limit.
Like strops, chains, D shackles etc etc.
Normally a % of its breaking strength.

Most of the time the 4x4 recovery gear is rated in its breaking strength which can be confusing.

I use 2500KG rated lifting strops for winch extensions etc etc.
Breaking in theory is 10T.
