Cheap 4x4 Wanted

Hi guys, my brother is coming over to NZ from the UK and will be looking for a 4x4. He is not going to have too much spare cash until he gets himself on his feet so does any body know of any reasonable trucks for sale around the 3-4k mark? Preferably in the Hawkes Bay/Manawatu areas. I don't think he is too fussed on make or model just something reasonably sound.
