hi all

My 3.5 v6 pajero is playing up again
Heres whats up just replaced water pump timing belt pulleys tensioners etc, just randomly died on me one day then tried to start again backfired and singed the air filter and wouldnt start.
after months of head scrathing replaced the crank angle sensor as contacts were broken to no avail then found behind main crank the plate behind it had broken pins and had slipped of replaced those and YAY shes starts again
Except now it barely accelerates untill about 3500 rpm and then she takes of like a rocket checked fuel filters a bit grimey but i wouldnt think would be bad enough to thrive it of fuel that much

Please help has got me stumped

Thanks chris

Crank angle sensor and I would also say the plate you talk of will effect timing. Have you put a timing light on it? My guess would be its a bit out. Failing that see if the ECU is indicating any fault codes.

There were timing marks to follow on engine, i guess they are what i follow so set them eaxct and TDC on main, is that what i set it to? were other marks 10 and 20 degrees i think. just presumed it was center. brand new crank angle sensor with extended wires as tne one i bought wasn't long enough so dont think it would be that

Whats does the timing light do?

Guess ill just have to plug her in and see if theres any error codes

Its really got me stumped and sheffields in a week hope i can get it ready

hi there, could you be 360 out on the timeing. pull out the number one spark plug and see if it is at the top, when at top dead centre. then? where are you in chch?

Ahh if you have to ask what a timing light does then that will be some of the problem. If it runs smoothly it is unlikely but still possible you are 180* out. What you need to do is get a timing light, find out what the timing in supposed to be then hook the timing light into the no1 plug lead, fire it up to the revs that go with the timing degrees (it will be in a book) and set the timing by moving the crank angle sensor.

i would suggest if you had to ask what a timing light is you find some one close who can help you.

if the timing was out wouldnt it be sluggish all through the rev range its only crap on idle and up to about 3500rpm. im no mechanic by all means

im just typing on behalf dad who im doing the project with is more of a techie than me, and we live out in swananoa which is just out of rangiora bout 10 mins

Thanks chris
