Bleeding td27 after running out of fuel.

Ran my terrano out of diesel, (could be coincidence) a few days later a sound just like a blocked injector started, and symptoms like a blocked injector, rough top end, blowing smoke when rough.
I used the primer (on top of fuel filter) to get fuel back into the injector pump. Didn't notice any bad symptons that day or the next. Have done easy 200km since.
Could an injector bleed be whats required? Or have I sucked some crap in at the bottom of the filter and its bunged up an injector?

When i ran my td27t outta diesel, i just put some new fuel in, primed and she fired up, No problems, My guess is you've sucked some crap up.
http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/ ... 25&t=25934Give that a read, shows what filters to check, as there seems to be a few.

Crack all the injectors give it a turn over till deisel comes out of injectors tighten up again.
Re reading your post I dout it is bleeding as you said sounds more like a block.

With the little gauze filter is it necessary to replace the banjo sealing washers? If so, where do you get them from?

I removed the little gauze filter from the banjo fitting on top of the injector pump, (after removing the P/S mount bolts and swinging to one side), only to find it was black an you couldn't see through it. Cleaned it, which took a little bit of time and once it was clean, put it back, and reused the washers on the banjo, and started it up.
From cold, the idle seemed better, no inital missing in the first minute or so,
Took it for a drive and
OH MY GOD WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE, NO MORE PROBLEM SYMPTOMS
THE TERRANO IS NOT SUCH A SLUG ANYMORE!!!!!!!!
MY TRUCK IS A 1993 TD27 TURBO WITH 235K ON THE CLOCK
PEOPLE, IF YOU DO ONE THING FOR YOUR TRUCK, CLEAN THIS FILTER

Might even look at mine tomorrow when I do the fuel filter.

Hmmm. Can't help wondering how these filters get blocked in the first place. As I see and follow a number of these types of topics for Nissans
http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=25934&hilit=+sicknessPics are cool but video rules
But seriously,
Having dealt with severe diesel contamination in large quantities with large launches, there are always contributing factors like, point of sale, storage, environmental factors, moisture and the dreaded bug too.
I have even designed my own fuel sterilizing units ether installed, or portable on vessels.
Buy fuel from the busiest station in town as they have the largest turnover.
Store in clean containers.
When siphoning never put the hose right to the bottom and leave bit of fuel behind.
When there is evidence of bug contamination, dump all the fuel or polish it, clean the whole system and start with fresh fuel with a little bio-cide.
Now, a question.......do any of you guys prefill your fuel filters when changing them?
I look forward to the answers.
Cheers,

I have not pre filled my filters in the past; should I?

Nah. You would be introducing un-filtered fuel to both sides of the media in the filter.
Best to prime with hand pump and out hose disconnected
Brings me to the point, how can muck get in this little filter at the pump if the pre-filter is just before it?
Cheers,

Who the fark knows

but Izuzu engines in particular are really susceptable to this problem, seems to be the most common fault Ive found when an Izuzu (but can affect most diesel engine)wont start or runs then dies under load, is when this filter is full of crap. Especially in diggers where the tanks are never very clean
To answer your other question, yes I regularly prefill filters but thru the outer holes (our tap on the wall has a small nozzle on it) so the un filtered fuel doesnt enter the pump side of the filter media
For us its mainly a time thing, when ya got 2 or 3 filters that hold a litre or more our service times dont allow time to scratch your arse let alone bleed fuel all the way thru the system

reopening old thread. I have been trying to find this in injection pump and I do not see it or the spring. how far down is it?

same here... I read this thread and thought id pop out and see what crap i could find in my filter. popped off the banjo fitting, but no spring, no filter? i even poked a magnetic pickup down in the hole and poked around for ages. nothing.
do you think someone else has had it off and chucked that stuff out or am I in the wrong place?
will i need to bleed injectors to start again now after having that off?
