Prado auto trans troubles

Post by koma »

I've got a 96 90 series prado, its really harsh in the gear shifts. Especially when hitting overdrive, or shifting up from 1st to 2nd manually etc. The trans has had a flush and filter change but it hasn't helped, any ideas on where to go to from here? Thanks in advance.

Perhaps the line pressure is too high.
I think they are controlled electronically in the 90 series via a solenoid.
Check all the wiring, pull the plugs clean with contact cleaner, once evaporated plug back together.
In the earlier 70 series it uses a pull cable.

Could also be the ECU, uses one unit for engine and auto.
Caps have a habit of crappn out anytime after the ten year mark.

Not sure if this is any help to you... but we had a similar problem with our lexus auto - harsh shifting down into 1st - it turned when the box was rebuilt, the guy forgot a ball bearing from somewhere in the valve body. Got it put back in and it was back to normal.
