Gas for mig(co2 or argon shield)
Gas for mig(co2 or argon shield)
wanting to know which is better for mig welding co2 or argon shield, some tips and hints would be great
Re: Gas for mig(co2 or argon shield)
That's a 6 million dollar question.
I am a novice but talking to a few welders and tradesman.....
Depends.
My bro welds with CO2. (as thats all his boss will buy)
Mate welds with Argo shield.
I have used both.
CO2 was a little more splattery than Argo and was hotter.
Argo-shield is smoother in comparison and the welds looked better.
But hey I am a novice and its my observations.

I agree Argo shield is darer, but less splatter and it is hotter and nicer welds.

Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

Re: Gas for mig(co2 or argon shield)
depends what you are welding - mild steel co2 is alright and gives hotter weld, co2 argon mix with mild steel is a good compromise to reduce splatter, anything else argon, especially stainless steel

Re: Gas for mig(co2 or argon shield)
pure argon on steel is awesome but expensive
anyway co2 is fine for most welding

Re: Gas for mig(co2 or argon shield)
I would go with co2 any day as the gas is a lot cheaper, the appearance in weld is not as good as argoshield but at the end of day its still a weld and its the guy on the end of the hand piece that can make it look good. Type of wire to type of gas is important, get the right mix.

Re: Gas for mig(co2 or argon shield)
for hard wire (coppercoat) argon is the shit u want, yea it costs more
for flux cored wire co2 is the business
