Wellington Winch Challenge Nov 25/26/27

Righto had a few emails of late and now posts in other threads all asking how I'm getting on with the final round of the National Winch Challenge Series to be held in Wellington.
Short answer is 'I'm not"
but never fear coz I will make it happen
Heres a brief run of what my brain has floating around inside it at the moment............
Friday 25th 2-3 afternoon stages / 1-2 night stages (possibly at a local farm)
Saturday 26th 6-8 day stages / 1-2 night stages (at Rallywoods)
Sunday 27th 3-4 morning stages / results in afternoon
I specifically said results and never mentioned the word prizegiving as I have decided to basically run this event as "no frills", so theres no sponsors and no prizes etc, theres basically an event you compete in and do your best and have fun.
Club Class, Challenge Class and either an Outlaw Class or the other new class which I havent read up on much
The whole event will be based at
http://rallywoods.co.nz/ which has a large area for camping/pits and not much else. We will supply portaloos but everything else you will have to bring and that includes fresh drinking water. If I get the use of the farm for friday then it will be a 30-40 min drive to get there.
Haven't worked out an entry fee yet, but I do know that South Island competitors will have free entry for this event and the rest of you will only be paying in the vicinity of $220.
theres probably heaps of crap I've missed so ask away and I will endeavour to answer

the snowfall damage up there is huge and most tracks that we used for kiwi need to be cleared for the national winch challenge
I plan to buy a chainsaw soon and will be spending a few weekends up there clearing tracks
I will post it up but it will be short notice postings, so if you are bored lonely and got nobody to walk along the beach with, then come clear tracks

I havent got any spare weekends for the rest of this month but I should have plenty of time Oct/Nov to cut trees, clear shit, talk shit, do shit etc..... I better keep my big mouth shut about driving tracks this time

.... should be into better weather and daylight savings by then too

Rallywoods is halfway between Mana/Porirua and Upper Hutt, would be about 40-45 mins drive either way

Is there on site washdown water, like a stream / pond or something? Not worries about pump, we can bring one of those and a califont and a water blaster, just prefer not to have to go 45mins to fill the 250L drum if we can do it on site.

yup, yup, yup have spoken to Stan Goodman and should be able to get a waterblaster plus water tank from him for the weekend
besides that, theres a bloody big river there for water supply
best bet for accomodation is to camp there, its a good 45 mins to an hour to any sort of motels, camping ground

Last I heard Skid was planning to use the 4x4 Challenges classes/ rules. The link is to the rules news page from 4x4 Challenges. The draft 2011 vehicel rules are there, as although they have been changed a bit from these (mainly around point system for standard/club) the general intent and basis should be the same.

I havent looked at the new class yet, but will definitely be running club and Challenge Class, but as of yet am undecided on the new class that I don't know the name of or wether I run an outlaw class

Dude you have to run the modified class

or a outlaw class

, otherwise I cant come.

Oh and I think modified has been one of the biggest classes at the other events this year.

Modified trucks are pretty popular down here too. Would definitely recommend running a class for them

Hey Skid
Any further word on classes, entry forms etc.
I know there is about 7 weeks to go, but coming down from up here is a major undertaking and I have a few things to organise, including sponsership for transport and the like. ( not to mention truck hasnt moved in 3 months) I just dont want to mess sponsers around if we aren't going to race, its hard enough to come by, I would like a bit of time to speak with them and sort a package though.
Cheers dude

just got off the phone with mike from south island expressing interest in coming up
it got me thinking about classes, so I went and looked them up coz I have no idea about them, but after looking and still having no idea, I figured I could run 4 classes
Challenge, Club, Modified & Outlaw
7 weeks you say

oh crap you just gave me a fright
entry forms I hope to steal from another event and post up somewhere soon
it would be nice also if the rest of the competitors could possibly show an expression of interest on here so I know theres actually people wanting to compete in the event
cheers
SKID

Cheers skid. But without my current one I think I wouldn't have done anywhere near as well. I need all the help I can get.
Was in touch with him earlier and he's keen, so we're in!!

Hi all,
I have spoken to Reece tonight and have confirmed with him that this event, being run by an NZ4WDA associated club, fulfills the criterea to be a 4X4 Challenges sanctioned event. As such, competition points achieved at this event will accrue for the national points totals.
Regards,
David (Dave) Brown
President 4X4 Challenges NZ Inc.
