September 3-4

Post by smurf182 »

Thought I'd start one of these for once

Got some fun bits ready to go in the 40

Rod ends (only $28 bucks for a full set, thanks Appco) and brake proportioning valve to finish off the swap to front discs

Image

Some new.. well, old seats. Was surprised to find a couple wires hanging out the bottom.. could that be a heated seat? Sweeeet

Got 2 new batteries, 640cca, and a VSR, will chuck them in the boot. Got the winch back, and she`s all ready to go on with the bars.

Other than that, not a lot.

Farking Curly made me go to see the doc today and they reckon I've got diabeties and have to knock off all the pies and piss drinking and start eatting lettace and shit now :? :x
more importantly we pulled the clutch out of my 40 series yesterday, had a good look underneath and it was going to be too much pissing around trying to drop the gearbox, the trucks been really well built but the vacuum 4WD actuator has been slotted into the inside of the chassis rail to fit and the safari PTO shaft would be an absolute prick to get out and the PTO would have to come off the gearbox and the 3" exhaust is tucked up really tight and would have to be dissassembled and removed to get the gearbox out so we took the easier option and pulled the engine

took the clutch out to MP in Upper Hutt to get looked at, they've rebuilt it before and pulled the jobsheet out and it turns out they rebuilt it not many kms ago, he measured it up and theres next to no wear on the clutch plate lineings, the clutch is a 12" chev clutch and functions ok under normal use but spins up under hard load so it looks like it needs something a bit stronger, might look at my old 11" clutch that came out of my flatdeck, that held up better with the 350, big wheels and difflocks and shit, when I had that one built they got some good clamping pressure out of it, Beer Cruisers going to drop off the spare centreforce pressure plate sitting in his shed and I'll have a look at that as well

Good thing I spotted the leak otherwise I would of been buggered.

Had a blast in woodhill today with Ray (FORGE1), Winston (Churchill) and couple other mates. Took a few pics, no action shots but heaps of other people did. Videos to come soon.

Very happy in how well the Jeep went considering the mud tyres only have 3mm left on them

Cheers

Well I think the truck should be going by then, so may as well take it if its finished. Only thing that won't be done is new gear box mount, so will just stay with the bent one for now. Never been there before so should be interesting.
If the truck hasn't been finished I will be taking the Samurai.

Good picks/vids bro. Was good to see you all again hopefully there wont be any issues next time lol

Winston have you got any of your vids on the computer yet?

Well my weekend started with picking up a trailer from Hirepool on friday and loading the bighorn up tow that to Auckland, slowly lol. Took the little one and wife to the zoo for my daughters birthday.
Sunday went to woodhill was good fun until the gearbox decided to pack up, might be something to do with my driving technique   anyway spent today cleaning it and taking the snorkel off standard wheels back on gearbox started coming out and have to pull the suspenion out this weekend going to RETIRE the bighorn. so it will be for sale in the next couple of weeks the wife has agreed to let me sell the bighorn and safari to get another SWB safari as I have never broken anything in the ones I have owned in the past.

Ha ha yea but remember what Rodge does and what he needs to do are two quite different things!!

Not wrong about the abuse. Finally said enough on one trip and broke the axle housing clean off, still didn't break the cv  just the axle.
