AirCon recharge?

Hi,
I have a TD42T 1995 Diesel SWB and the engine is suddenly cutting in about every 30 secs or so. When it does it driving along I can feel the accelerator pedal go down slightly under my foot. I can hear a bit of a gurgling coming from behind the central AC column, and when the AC unit is switched off, the cut in stops, I have no sign of overheating, is there anybody here with any suggestions?
