on board air gauge/pump,what you got/use

Post by JR »

trying to find one for my truck, so wanting to know of any good ones that pople use or know off. only good one iv found is like the big ones you get at the servo, pretty big and cost around $114 from supercheep. was hoping to find somthing a bit smaller, one that you can scew onto the valve cap and walk awway when pumping the tyres back up would be great. cheers for any help boys and girls

I've used a fire breathing apparatus cyl for years, now have a dive cyl (more volume than BA) with regulator to drop the pressure to acceptable levels, short handline and a refill hand piece just the same as you'd use at a service station.
It's in a bracket mounted to the vehicle but cyl is portable, fast and able to reset beads if required simply.
Will pump a 36inch tyre from 5psi to 25psi in about 30 secs, enough air to do that for about 12 tyres, i do fill the cylinder myself but even if i had to pay to fill it would still be my first choice for air

not sure if your meaning just the hose and nozzle/gauge or a complete pump?

I've tried a few different things and just use a hose kit you get from ARB (came with my first set of airlockers), its just a straight hose with a clip nozzle on the end without a gauge, the advantage is that you can clip it on and dont have to piss around holding a trigger while the tyre inflates, after a while you get pretty good at judging the time to inflate the tyres and only need to do a quick check with a gauge and a minor + or - adjustment of air. I've got an A/C compressor on my 40 series to supply air and it pumps tyres up pretty quick, my flatdeck only had a ARB compressor and I only really used that to put a bit extra air into the tyres untill I can get them pumped up properly, there a bit expensive to wear out pumping your tyres up every 5 minutes so I always knew whose truck to park beside to get my tyres pumped up at the end of a trip.... aye Reece

i can supply either a screw on quick inflate which you plug ya airline into and it inflates the tyre with the valve out but not a auto shut off or i can supply a lock on inflator the airline plugs into and can leace the valve in. can also sell you a pressure gauge you put on valve and a pressure scale slides out tellin how much psi is in it.

let me know if interested

How about using a pressure switch off a air compressor and gauge, Oviously would have to be wired up with air on/off. Have your pre set pressure and just a clip hose like saddams. Would this work??????????????????

Planning on putting an a/c pump fed tank in my new truck eventually. seen a few trucks in the club with those in, pretty neat idea. Useful for running an angle grinder incase the bastards who run the work car park get clamp-happy ha ha. Got a 3dr Vitara so space in the back is premium, will mount under chassis. means crawling under to drain water from tank after each trip but never mind.

Doesn't look difficult, wiring will be the hardest thing for me.

got some instructions for doing an a/c conversion on the vitaras if anyone wants it.

Only problem is the bloody truck has packed a sad so gotta make it happy again before I do anything else.

pretty much what im after ay, sick of kneeling down holding it on, were did you get that clip from and would i be able to put a gauge just behind the clip to see whaat presure its at? was hoping there would be a standed one with a clip type and gauge in one.

have tha a/c pump feeding a holding tank in the front bar, so hopfully is not to slow, also as said useing a grinder or such in the bush will be vary handy.

they sent me the whole hose with the fittings with some air lockers I got from the states a few years back, problem with trying to stick a guage on without a trigger is you'll end up reading the air pressure in the line instead of the air pressure in the tyre

the only problem I had with my A/C Compressor was the inlet was too restricted, I replaced it with a length of heater hose into the cab with a filter on the end and it made a huge difference to the air flow and volume

Have ya got a roll cage? If yes convert that to a tank. Might be a pain to do intially but it works and depending on the size will have lots of volume too.. I filled mine to 100psi before I left home with my home compressor and topped up as I needed to with the truck one

i have had a pajero and now a safari use the same system for both a/c unit as the pump and a front brake tank out of a scania truck the blow off safty valve set at 140 psi which is enough to oump up tyres and run a rattle gun
