Auto Gearbox issues..... Not holding 2nd gear and sometimes not selecting it at all and skipping into 3rd.
Oil level & Condition great...
(Has had a "PATCH UP" rebuild some years ago by AAutomotive before i owned the truck)
Any ideas? Bands?
Anyone have a PDF on the auto gearbox by chance?
Cheers

I'd be guessing time for a new one? these boxes aint very good. When i ghot mine 8 months ago it slips quite bad in some gears, somehow it has managed to do about 30,000kms and still going, cant see it lasting much longer though. When it gives out I'll be converting to manual.

Thread dig...I had a similar issue after having my injector pump tuned.
To fix mine I adjusted the TPS switch on the injector pump. Shifts perfect now.

Would you care to expand on this tweak please?

Will do - I will take photos in the morning which will show my current adjustment.
It's is also a big contributor the the auto gearbox failing. The TPS tells the auto how much throttle you are using.
When the TPS switch is set too low, it thinks you aren't using much throttle and the auto will shift early. (and will also skip 2nd) This causes the auto clutches to work overtime, revs are low, gear is high and throttle input is moderate. It is shifting too early for the amount of load on the engine.
The auto is getting hotter and hotter when operating like this. I tested it myself after the tune, the gearbox ROASTS if the TPS switch isn't set up correctly.
My Terrano has had a big trans cooler from new, has done 260k and the auto is near perfect. It is a bit slow to shift into 2nd from WOT but I think that's just the nature of the ECU controlling the shifts. (revs climb too fast in 1st)
