Hey,

Have a front mount that came bolted on but not plumbed up.

I'm just getting it sorted but from the advice I've been given and read, water to air is the way to go.

My question is, as the front mount is already on there would it be worth just leaving it there and running two intercoolers or for the gains (or lack thereof due to possible pressure drop?) would I be better off just throwing it on trademe and getting some coin to put towards something else?

Space is not an issue.

how bigs the intercooler? I could be keen to buy it,

Water to air is much better for alot of off road work as the dont block up as I have heard

For on road and towing the front mount is best but offroad they get blocked up, water to air are good offroad but not as good on road plus id imagine there would be alot more heat in an engine bay were the water to air would be mounted so gains would be less?

from what i know water to air coolers are the most efficent but take a bit to get to work at their best.(water flow/size of heat exchanger,etc)
For a good simple system the front mount would the way to go for now esp if its a decent size one. As for mud blocking it, its no different than mud blocking the radiator. Water to air coolers are affected as well as the heat exchanger goes in front of radiator so would get blocked as well there fore not cooling the water down.

Have heard of people using a water spray system to 'wash the mud off' while 4wding with mixed results

Top mount with a high rated fan from Spal or Davis Craig for lots of mud and bog work, otherwise a front mount will be fine. I have a fan on my top mounted intercooler and it hardly kicks in when out bush only when giving it a thrash through a big bog.

I already have an air to air and I am getting a decent w2a no matter what as I think it is a better choice for offroading.
I'm not worried about w2a vs a2a or top vs low, what I'm wondering is if there would be any real advantage to running BOTH seeing as the a2a is already bolted up ready and waiting to be used.

I have read a little bit about it and some cars run two intercoolers from factory, but they use the same type of quite small coolers on small (petrol) engines with shorter piping than what I will have so I don't know if their results are really applicable.

I have also read there would be a bit of a pressure drop and you may lose 2 or so psi to compensate but I don't know if the extra cooling ability would be worth that or not.
In saying that I'm not exactly going to miss 2 psi but I'd rather have the money in my pocket than something hanging off the front that is only good for bling factor, if that is the case.

I guess the best option may just be to try it and let you all know

im with rangi on this,sounds like it would be way to laggy running 2.iv buit fast cars in the past and always tried to keep pipe work short for best results.water sprayer units work well,esp when the water bottle is surrounded with ice.

wouldnt bother with 2 coolers taz waste of time and you will see no benefits, actually you would loose performance. w2w would be the way to go tho or top mount with a scoop and a fan on it. that way barely a boost drop bugger all pipin and still stays cold

with my top mount on the mu i make 2-3 more psi at 100km.

Thought that might be the case otherwise you would hear of it being done more often eh.

Dunno man. I think it was in the first six links that popped up in google when I looked it up. Will be some little hot hatch thing no doubt.

I know this sort of thing is available (one intercooler with twin intakes)but only used for twin turbos as you will see it has 2 inlets (for 2 turbos) and 1 outlet becasue you only have one engine intake. Seems a bit of a waste of time to me, but i've never run one of them, twin turbo's are usually shit anyway and its much beter to pull them off and go for one big bastard.

I'd say pipe up your front mount, it will be great on the road and build a removable screen to put infront of it when your in the mud.

Water injection on demand inter cooling I have it on my truck, it works that well that the inlet manifold is cold to touch, plus as a added bonus it steam cleans your inside of engine, if any ones keen to have a look hit me up

Keen to see your setup

if going w/a then make sure you get a good one and a decent heat exchanger. Also don't try and get a big water pump as it'll move the water around to fast.
Have heard of guys using a small car radiator for an exchanger.

Plumb up both intercoolers and see what it's like. If you don't like it remove one of them.
