HDJ81 Blown brake hose

Took the 80 to get a wof this morning and it blew the front right brake hose on the rolling road. Subsequently it failed. Rang around to get a replacement and picked one up from B.N.T. Got it back home to the sticks, tried to fit it but the bastard won't thread on to the steel brake line. Thread appears to be the same, internal diameter same. The joker who served me had a look at the old one, we both thought it was the same. Cruiser now sitting in driveway with no brakes and spare brake line that wont fit. Are there more than one type of union for the 80 series?
Any ideas?

You might find the tip of the fitting on the brake pipe / line has flared out and wont fit in the new brake line.
Have had it happen to me.
Tweak with a file.
