Hi Guys
I'm fitting a chinese airlocker in the rear of my 91 safari, went in no problems, however the wiring loom and compressor supplied appear to be 12V. The compressor runs well on 12V.
Is there any way to check if the compressor is 12 or 24V?
If it is 12v could I just wire it up to one battery?
Finally, where could I buy a 24V compressor, that anyone could reccomend?

ARB sell a 24 volt compressor.
but supply it with 12 volt control valves and solenoids.

Don't take a feed from just one battery - they are wired in series and that will result in overcharging the other battery. You could try taking a feed from your stereo power supply which will be from a voltage reducer. It may not supply sufficient current though. You're probably best to buy a decent capacity voltage reducer and run it through that. Something like this

Thanks for the good advice. The autosparky was quoting around $300 for a voltage reducer with enough start up current to run the 12v compressor.
So I think I will buy the ARB 24v unit, which comes with the wiring loom. Then Ill sell the 12v compressor and gear on trademe.

You could always run a voltage equaliser on the battery. If you run it off your 12v battery, these balance the charge between the batteries to avaoid killing them

I was just looking on the ARB website and they reckon I could run the 12V compressor off the accessory 12V supply. This would save me having to buy the 24V comp.
has anyone done this, and would the Safari 12V supply be enough to start and run a 12V comp? ARB quote the current draw, no load, as 5amps, however I'm thinking the startup draw would be considerably higher.

I doubt it, they barely run anything other then a factory stereo. I just bought a reducer from jaycars for about 80 bucks and ran 12v compressors for tyres, the bilge pump and compressor for pressurizing diffs etc from it. No problems.

i run 12v off one battery the left side one through a on/off switch then into arb switch gear its only turned on when truck running for compressor no problems yet this is a quick fix a lrage 24/12 ruducer need for all other 12v gear in the truck
