EGT gauge location

Post by NJV6 »

On this manifold the EGR went on the left hand side where there is a hole. This is going to be blanked off. Is it suitable location for putting the EGT sensor?

What EGT gauges are people using?

If you place the EGT next to one exhaust outlet from only one cylinder you will only get the temp for that cylinder.

Personally I would aim to place the EGT where all the gas streams are merged.
Then you get a good average.

Some might say it doesn't matter, Just makes sense to me.
Somewhere here would be good....

And before the turbo is ideal......As this is the true temp your engine is producing and what your turbo is being exposed to.
The issue of probes breaking and stuffing the turbo and far and few between....

As for gauges, I priced up units here in NZ and they were really expensive.
Went for a digital gauge from the states...Can set alarms to warn you to back off.
And use them for something else if you change vehicles etc etc.

Others have also done this...

Have fun....

Dam, I was hoping you were going to say it'd be fine!!!

I realised it would only get one or two cylinders but expected they would all be the same...

I might try overseas for a gauge, I'm not a fan of the digital ones personally.....

EGR ports are commonly used and can work well IF the probe can get into the gas stream. hard to tell in the pic, the probe would have to be on an angle to get into the gas stream. while the manifold is out it may be easier to drill and tap it in the collector part.
