Hey all just recently got my self an ln61 surf very keen to get out and get in to some offroading so thought I would sign up to get to find more information about local clubs/meets and also the trucks them selfs.

My other car is a ma70 supra that I have been building over the last 6 years I really felt the need for on and off track fun :)

Now my recently aquired surf only after 3 days the 2l-t has suffered form what appears to be a fubar head so looking for a replacement motor just to keep me going for a while before I decide if I plan a motor swap.

Im sure there are a million threads on this have been searching abit not finding the definite answers im after though is I have been offered a "good" runner from a freind of a freind 2l non turbo.

Can I just straight swap my turbo gear on to it? or do I need a thicker gasket to lower compression and also are the interals the same n/a-turbo?

If any one local is willing to give a hand/advice would be apreciated im not a mechanic but spent alot of time swinging spanners on my supra so im not afraid to rip in to it myself I feel you end up with a greater respect for the car.

sooooo after that massive rant here are my toys :)

theres two main 2l/2lt series. they have different heads and i think the exhaust manifolds are different. early ones are roller rockers and later ones are shimmed type.
plus i think early 2l's didn't have oil squirter's etc so they are not good for turboing.
i can't see the point of putting a 2l back in there, gutless and only going to blow heads.

if you are going to change engine shove a 3L or 5L in there. if your 2LT is the later type the turbo gear will all bolt on. tho check the turbo, those motors are very old and turbo is probably on its last legs.

7m is staying in the supra maybe 2j truck  na probly just put a rebuilt 3lt in it next year 1uz does sound nice too though will be next years mission anyway.

In the mean time ive got a good second hand head from the same model as mine so will put that on sometime in the next few weeks that will hopefully hold out till mid next year atleast

the plan was to have this as my daily hopfully it works out

well replacement head is off getting new pre coms and a clean started pulling my motor apart its frighning to say the least :x

so far the wireing is like a birds nest
intake full of oil so turbo probly shagged
intercooler joiners are waaay to big so must have had a massive boost leak also explains the oil around that area
crank pully bolt was not tight enough
blows stero fuse when you hit large bumps

and I havent even got the head off yet lol.

plans are slap new head, waterpump, cambelt yada yada
maybe have a crack at one of those diy turbo rebuilts on trademe for $150
get proper size reducers and see how it goes.

hopefully manage to get a bit of offroad time while I do some more work on the supra then next year either sell it and buy someone elses project or 1uz and lockers in to this.

it all depends of how much I enjoy off roading

will have spent maybe $1500 all up after ive done the head oil coolant change ect so that would mean it only owes me $4000 all up seen as only paid $2500 for it
