Trans & gear box oil - do we flush?

Can any one help with some info please?

I've got a toyota caldina 4wd that I have been told needs the trans and gear box oil changed.

The gear box is ATF-Type T (written on dipstick)
and the transfer is API-GL-5 (written on dipstick)

1. Do they both use the same oil?
2. Should we be doing a flush first?
3. If so, what type of flush do we buy?
4. How do we find out how much fluid is in the transfer case, and gear box?

Malcolm suggested I post this up here as someone was sure to know the answers, as we have had a look online and havent had any luck answering our own questions. Really need to do it ourselves as cant afford to pay someone else to do it.

Thanks
Deb

is there a gearbox listed on the firewall plate?, generally the transfer should be normal gearbox oil and the A/T is ATF fluid. some garages have special flushing machines. A/T boxes have filters inside them, Graham knows how to change them

Trans ATF Dex3
Transfer 80w90 Gear oil.
Trans should have a filter in the sump. Pretty easy to replace. I Personally would bother flushing, and for levels, thats why you have a dipstick
