LN107 Suspension Problems

I came across a set of Lovells Rear Gas Legend 36mm Shock Absorbers, (their part # 64612525), for the right price (read 'free'). Having a look in their catalogue, I couldn't find a LN107 specifically, however for nearly every other Hilux around the same year, and specifically those that were torsion bar/leaf, the part number above was the one to use.
Figuring I was onto a good thing, I've fitted them up. I did notice that there isn't a lot of travel left in the shocks when the wagon is sitting normally (about an inch on one side, inch and a half on the other) but didn't think too much of it until I went for a drive. I can hear/feel what I assume to be the shocks bottoming out when going over bumps - it's kinda hard to tell without having someone hanging out of the tailgate watching but it wasn't there before so I guess that's what it must be.
Has anyone else had this happen/fitted these shocks to a 92 Hilux? I'm wondering if my springs are sagged, but even if they are, I would expect the bump stops to hit before the shocks bottomed out.
Suggestions/solutions? Otherwise it's going to be old shocks back on (glad they haven't been thrown out yet!) I did think about longer shackles to lift the back up a bit, but wonder if I'm just hiding the problem with that rather than actually fixing it.
Cheers.
