2.8 diesel hilux battery going flat

2.8 diesel hilux ln106 1988
single battery


tried two batteries, one was brand new

over time battery slowly dies even though it says its charging at over 12 volts........

battery light is on and engine check light and glow plug timer light flashes every now and then as if somehting isnt earthing

have numerous earths to motor and chassis

what could be the problem??

a pretty good educated guess is that its not charging


stick a volt meter accross the battery when the trucks running and it should be reading a bit above 13v then drop down to 12v when you shut the truck down

problem is , is that light has been on for the past 3 munths and has been fine, turck has been drowned before and i suspect the starter motor is dieing, i will check with volt meter tonight, i was rong to say battery has been dieing as i dnt know this yet, will update

well put multimeter on it and it was the same as when turned off, so not charging, so i did the logical thing......

grabbed and big pole and big hammer and hit the alternator :shock:

now it works :wink:

will go shopping for a new one though, or get it rebuilt, must be full of shit

still have the problem of the t belt light, the little light with a mottor with water in it light and the battery might all still on, must be all off the same circuit, but how to i get rid of them?
