may be a vacuum booster from your manifold, this provides more braking thingy when connected which may be a good thing, on diesels this is connected to the alternator, on petrols the manifold?

What he said. It will have a valve thingee in it too from memory and without it the brake pedal is very hard to push (little braking too).

So yes you can do without it if you must, but I wouldnt as your right leg will take a hammering with the amount of force needed to stop and it would be dangerous.

plumb in directly into the intake manifold , as far away from the throttle body as possible.
must have the one way valve installed, white plastic thing that fits into the booster with a rubber grommet.
defiantly recommended if you are running bigger than stock tyres.

Thanks for the replies guys. The truck is a SJ410 chassis and motor, SJ413 diffs, Samurai cut down body. The firewall wont take the sj410 master cylinder so I have put on a SJ413 so need to hook up this hose to something so will have a look tomorrow for somewhere on the manifold
