fuel quality in nz make me cringe so much. modern diesels need far better qualiy stuff than the slurry of fail that we have to have. probably not as bad as many countries but, shit.
Re: On fair go now ! Modern Diesel failuires
nothing to new. they had one about hiluxs on a while back.
water in fuel = big repair bills.
worse thing is when injectors stick open and melt holes in piston.
the catch here is fuel filters only catches free water not emulsified water. sometimes they add additives to fuel to break up the water. unfortunately that can make water get past the filter.
now who wants to buy a cheap 2nd hand common rail diesel ?

my gf's cousin used to work at toyota before he went overseas and they did a hilux down here that had water in the fuel. That was over 14k for the repairs. The common rail pumps alone are about 7k apparently for the 1kd.

I work at a hunting lodge and we have 6 hiluxs this kinda thing happens all the time, just about every week one is away getting fixed, I see there is a few guys that rip the common rail of and go back to the manuel fuel pump.
