at the moment kill switches do'nt do a lot as the vehicles are towed away

consider a bonnet lock as well, theives apparantly go straight for the siren and rip it out first

slip the transfer case into neutral and away you roll ?

I have seen a vehicle that had a plate that folded up over the pedals and was locked by a substantial padlock, when unlocked it folded flat on the floor. made it very hard for any one to drive and even towing was a problem to thieves.

i reckon putting a padlock or similar through your handbrake lever is the go kills to birds with one stone.

That's not a bad idea at all - even the traditional dash-board style 'turn-and-push' would be fairly easy with a sleeve the length of the shaft that could be locked around it once engaged.

Still, easy enough to climb underneath and cut the handbrake cable.

Unfortunately that's easy, they'd just cut the cable.

I don't really think it matters what you do, the theives will find a way around it

Set up a way of locking your wheels to your driveway? i.e. have a big screw in 'eye' on one side of the driveway, and slip some chain through the wheel, and back to the eye, and padlock it?

Or a pole set in the ground next to the driveway could work - or even a fencepost?

May be easier than stuffing round with fiddly locking things inside the vehicle?

Untill you need to move it in a hurry or emergency, or just plain forget about it.

I know of a joker who did this with a disc-brake lock on a motor bike. Completly forgot about it, right up until the front wheel completed one revolution...

But if you're in a hurry, you won't want to have to unlock handbrake locks, pedal box locks etc etc either...

Yea gotta agree that if someone wants it they will take it no matter what ya do. All you can do is limit the places it gets left alone without you and try to add as much protection as possible.

worse part with chains is that bolt cutters go through it easy. And if its parked on hard ground they can still go jack it away even if the wheels are locked up.

My old boss who has a ford ute has a kill switch in it and whenever he parks it he kills it and removes the key, funny too as the switch is hidden very well

get a good 5 star alarm with as many immobilisers as possible and get a good installer to make sure they are hard to find. Then screw the siren down with the one way screws you can get for number plates and make a cover for it so thieves can't smash it with a hammer. Make sure the siren has a back up battery and get a gps tracker. That might stop them. Thats the path i will be taking

The one thing you can do is have good insurance. After all if the bastards want it they will get it.

With my race truck that was basically uninsurable for the replacement value I followed a few simple rules.

Never leave it far from where I was.

I made it easy to get in to so they didn't damage it.

Made it really hard to start. I didn't both with any normal security but had seperate kill switches. I made the fuel kill switch easy to find so they thought it would then start. BUT I also had an ignition (not diesel) kill switch that you would not find unless you knew where to look. The good thing about this is they could turn it over and there would be fuel but it wouldn't go. Funny how people will come and help someone who is having problems start a vehicle but will ignore a car alarm!!!

So my advice is unless it is a modified vehicle don't waste your time too much and make sure you have good insurance.
A rule of thumb for GOOD insurnce is if they advertise on TV all the time then stay away!!!!!!!!
