Hey guys,
I am thinking of getting a 3" exhaust for my 1996 hilux. Have any of u guys done this or a similar job, did you have any issues? What kind of price should i be looking at?
Does anyone know a good place (value for money haha) in christchurch to get it done? Magoo? Hornby exhausts?
Cheers for your help

Wouldn't 3" be a tad on the large side? As exhaust gasses cool they expand which may create a 'wall' in the pipe. For a 1kz (assuming thats what you've got) I'd go with a 2.5".
Just my 2 cents, feel free to tell me to f#$k off

i thought cooling gases shrunk in size. heat gas to expand.
fit as big as you like. it just tends to cost more, be a bit louder and a fraction more in power.

I put a 3inch on mine for 800 at uni weld from exhaust back, they did same set up on mate truck, both same specs etc and i could easierly pull away.
3inch does have a big gain

Hey Guys, Cheers for all your replies. I think ill head into uni weld and have a yarn with them about what to do. It is a 1kz te. So general consensus 3" or 2.5"? haha
Should i go with with whole exhaust including the dump pipe or just from the bottom of the dump pipe back?
Cheers for the help much appreciated

I've got a two into one 3" exhaust on my 40 series cruiser, the whole thing has been made out of short pieces all joined with flanges to get it routed around everything and tucked tucked up above the chassis where its properly protected, I'd doubt theres a single piece longer than about 600mm in the whole exhaust, it's a lot of work building an exhaust that size and getting it up out of the way so it might be worth having a look to see what sort of labour and cost will be involved before you end up with a big long 3" drain pipe hanging right down the length of the truck all ready to get hooked up and crushed

personally have done a full 3 inch including dump pipe on a 1kz surf before and had great low end gains and allowed my pedal to be pushed less while cruising at 100kms, if doing 3 inch i wouldnt bother with it unless urve done 3 inch dump pipe too as that is probably the most restrictive part of the exhaust,

I've got a 3 inch system in my Prado (1kzte) from the dump pipe back (still got to do the dump pipe) and it's a little noisey, not much but a bit of a drone. If I could have found a 2.75 mandrel system to install that would be my aim. 3 is a little too big and 2.5 was just a little small in my opinion.
If you need a dump pipe made up I have a few Turbo flanges left (12mm ones) and depending on the type of system you have check out kBushes prado build as it has some stuff on his layout and what he did.

I'd stay with NZ advice though for our environment etc...

Does anyone have pics of a 3" dumptube for a KZN185 they could post? Looking into having one made for my '96 Surf, and looking for some pics to help us along. There are very few of these trucks over here, so nobody has experience with them.
