LN106 Lift Advice

Gidday all,

I have an LN106 double cab that I want to lift 4 inches in suspension and 2 in body so I can run 35s.
I have diff gears and everything sorted (will be running 5.29s) and ARB lockers front and rear.
Was just wondering what the best suggestions for lift are. I want everything to run the way its should so it will be done right e.g castor wedges, dropped drag link etc
If anybody has any suggestions or knows of any decent kits out there it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Could do RUF coons in the back, depending on what you want to do, or do a coil conversion for the front.

What do you want from the vehicle?

Ride quality and handling? Grind everything off the diff get mounts and arms made and fit Coilovers. More time consuming but cheaper option swap prado running gear under the Hilux taking as many mounts off the chassis as poss.

OffRoad Hack Hunting truck? rears up front but it is not a cheap option, you need surf power steering box, new steering shaft, crossover steering conversion, new longer front drive shaft and if like me a track rod over the rear diff.

Falcon springs are very long and soft in two trucks I know of coil "helpers" were needed on each side to stop bottoming out and both have trac rods to minimize climbing issues.

Remember you are going to need to get it certified so think carefully I stuck with leaf springs, crossover steering and track rod with good drivability but now and moving to coilover shocks to get away from them so I will go through cert twice.

There is no one answer that is right for all I am also going wider (Cruiser or Patrol diffs) and lower (trimming the guards) to make things fit, mounting the shocks higher blah blah blah then I am going to drive it around supermarket carparks and past schools to scare the pants off single mums.

P.S. That last comment is not intended to offend the PC Police it is intended to be funny.

OK if you are going for coils you will get a way better (more comefortable) result but there is a cost to it. Looking at a coil conversion the fastest and easiest method would be to grab a goil surf rear end and the mounts (chop the rear part of the frame out) and you also get more width if you chose the right surf :).

For the front find a wrecked prado and again chop the frame out taking the springs mounts and all, you gain a high pinion diff from the prado and if you find the IFS Surf front hubs and space the brake disk back you get the same (or so close) width as the back.

This is all 8" running gear with the ratio's you previously had available to you, if you want bigger diffs then the landcruiser or Safari is an option. Have a chat to Rick at 4wd accessories, he is in a new workshop and has done most of these conversions before and delt with the problems others (who will remain nameless) conversions have had.

He may even sell you the laser cut and folded brackets you need if he is not doing the work this will give you a head start :) also talking to more people means you get the best overall result!

Cheers Steve

Hi steve,

Thanks heaps for that, I'll give rick a call and see what he says, after a more comfortable ride, the old leaf springs are just an all round crap ride haha and after more flex 8) 8)
I could probably pick up a surf rear end from a guy I know for quite cheap. What width am I looking for for the wider one?

Cheers, Michael
