Giday at the moment i have a Terrano TD2.7T ive had them now for 12 years but im now looking at getting a rocky .
Tell me why i should or shouldnt get one

finding parts and after market accessories can be a problem sometimes, list parts are more expensive than cruisers/hiluxes. Are you looking at the Feroza/Rocky or the bigger diesel Rocky/Rugger

im almost so over diesels at the moment after haveing the pump overhauled n a few other things.
So i guess im looking at a petrolrocky or a rugger if they come as a petrol one

I loved my 1.6 petrol rocky, i think they are all convertable hard top roof. I enjoyed taking the roof off and going for drives in the summer. i never offroaded it seriously, just muriwai. i hear body lifts are easy to do, stick some 30 x 9.5's under it and they would probably be comparable to suzuki offroad capabilities. But like suzuki's they are small and underpowered. i found mine fine for day to day stuff, but you wouldnt be able to take 4 people and gear away for a weekend. Use alot of petrol for their size 9-10 km/l around town (mine was an auto, and on bigger wheels tho)

may be a motor up grade there must be something that will fit in there any suggestions welcome

Iv had a couple of diesel rugger's and love them. for wat they are there awesome but unfortunately if you wish to improve on what they are they become a dad difficult . no lockers available for them, 5 stud wheels just to be difficult. parts are hard to come by. no after market bits for them in the way of lift kits etc. really comes down to wat you want from a vehicle.know nothing about the petrol engines. i still have a rugger body but to sort out the issue of limitations of them it now sits on a prado chassis. If you want one as it is then go for it but if you want something to play with and modify save yourself some grief and get something more mainstream.

as jerry and pruggerdore said just factor in that parts arent as abundant as a lot of other vehicles when it comes to maintaining, repairing and modifying them compared to the more mainstream 4wd's

put more power in great then snap the cv's like twigs. there teny, neva managed to break one with 2.8 diesel turbo tho . diffs probably wont handle it either. so then rip them out and put hilux ones under it etc/ or just buy a toyota in the first place. dont know of a simple straight in power upgrade. dont get me wrong there neat little trucks, it's just your starting a bit behind to begin with.

i like my blizzard that used to be factory with rocky bits, hard to get now, so i replaced them.

I'd stick with something common, buy a Zuk if you want a smaller vehicle.

A blizzard is a rebadged daihatsu with a toyota motor. if you don't want a toyota then look for a cheap safari ....

Had a blizzard,thrashed the shit out of it,had 33s on it and even with chains and a heavy right foot i never broke anything. motor was a 2lte with 14psi up it bum.
Was a fantastic little truck. The gear boxes and transfers are WAY over engineered. and would easily handle more grunt.
afaik the rocky run same driveline as the blizzrd g/box/transfer had diahatsu stamped on it

does anyone know of any rugger/blizzard/rocky bodys in canterbury? rolled my blizzard and am having trouble finding a replacement body. any help would be much apreciated.

yeh i know they now own them but for those of you that didnt know diahatsu were toyotas motor manufacture for years n then toyomota brought them out so i guess that in all reality they are still out there but under a shit badge

im still keen on getting one ive looked at a few now but they seam to be way over priced for what they are a local car sales had one about a month ago n wanted 6k for it n it was a bit of a shitter they now have a 1990 one in 1600 petrol n the want 7k for it.
Whats a gud sorta price for one ?

for the 1600 i wouldnt pay anything over 4k max for very low k's and very tidy

i just picked up a very rough not going one on brand new tyres for 700 so there are deals out there

parts are usually hard to find and expensive when you want them.

ive never paid more than 400 for a full set of diffs for my rugger even picked a rolled one up for free at one time. as for the feroza theres plenty of parts about for them now.

modifying them takes a bit more and you have to be a bit more creative in doing it. still with a little thought can be done relatively cheaply

Depends what you want out of your next 4wd? early ish hilux or solid axle surf and jam in a 3rz, v6 D2.? nav or terrano, dihatsu somethin, swb suzuki vit or an SJ... If you like what you have but want to go petrol why not buy it in the v6 version, everyone thinks the dozel is cheaper to run but by the time you factor in k's servicin etc theres not a lot in it..

you could always get the 2.8dt and throw a holden petrol v6 in it.
this place is aussie will get the bow housing to fit the rugger 5spd. the box needs to have a removable housing to do the conversion. http://www.dellowconversions.com.au/
