Dying SJ

A mate recently purchased a SJ410, and just found the oil ring broke, and resulted in the bore being scratched, so now needs either an engine re-build or replacement engine. Has this happened to anyone before? And what engines are best for swapping into? I've heard and seen the 4K swap, just curious about others... Thanks

I have most of a Datsun 1200 0r 1500 conversion here if your mate wants it he can have it cheap, I have engine mounts, gearbox mounts, radiators, cables, driveshafts to match sj transfer case and all other drive shafts to suit etc, pm me for more details if you like? Good conversion option, all you would need is a motor a12,a14, or a15, and a gearbox. These little motors go realy hard for what they are and not much mechanical knowledge needed to work on them etc.

I agree , a 1300 and 5 Speed . need to mod engine mounts , gearbox mounts , transfer case mounts and jack shalft.
Ideal would be just find another 1000cc F10a to put in as a direct swap.

Thats a lot of work for an old 1300 . I would either take up the offer above for teh a series engine mounts and parts and find an N series nissan engine as I think they are the same block bolt pattern . Atleast you have a more modern engine .
On that note thou get a suzuki twin cam 1.0 ( or 1.0 turbo ) out of the little wagon R as I think they are the same bolt pattern as the f10a also ( if not the wagon R one of the other simillar engines ) K series engines by the look of it and there seems to be a k12a . Note F , G and K series engines can be either 3 or 4 cyl so watch out for that

G series engines have different gearbox patterns to the F and K series engines

F10a Suzuki engines are getting hard to find. A12 or A15 Nissans were a common swap because the inlet and exhaust were on the correct sides, etc. Most people also used the Nissan gearboxes. But they are getting pretty old now too. Pretty sure that nomis9 has an A15 in his shed tho if you want to go down that track (PM him if keen). The Nissan engines give a bit more torque than the zuk motors, but the zuk ones just love to be thrashed.

i've got an F10A lying around maybe i should put the rings and bearings in it i have lying around and see what i can get for it. a few things would need to be changed over from the SJ though as it is set up as a slant motor so sump, oil pick up and intake manifold would need to be swapped

sj's are a easy 4wd to do a engine swap on as they have a seperate transfer case. You can basically put any rwd engine you want in aslong as the gearbox is short enough. I have had a nissan ca18de and ca18det in my zook before i settled for a toyota 1uzfe. We also have people in our club running a nissan a15 and a toyota 4age.

Thanks for all the help! The mechanic said he found a replacement F10A engine for him, but for $800, so he said he would keep looking. But He appreciates all of your helpful suggestions!

I wouldn't pay more than $250 for a good F10a
